I don't know one thing about wrestling....and frankly, don't really care to. But reading this headline almost makes me want to either cry or punch a wall...maybe I'll do both. One program is disgusted by not pitching a shutout in a sport where I'm guessing it's almost unheard of....another program is now elated to win by ANY margin over ANY team....no matter how terrible the opponent. Very telling the difference in expectations far as where the bar is now raised...or should I say lowered.

Ok smart guy....what I know for a fact is that if Iowa scored 33 points in football, it would have been against a team that was destined for a .500 or below season. And I am very proud of Iowa's wrestling program....just not interested in the sport.

Mods, can we change the title of this thread to "Waste of your time; do not open"? Mods? Hello? Hello!?

The OP is correct, football and wrestling are both very aggressive sports. Athletes that want to dominate. Brands acts like he wants to dominate and take control of the action. KF not so much anymore, when KF keeps saying "that's football" it sounds like someone who is resigned to the idea that he cant control the action. KF and his coaches did not seem to be that way the first 6-7 years he was here.

And one sport is dominated in the high school ranks by the state of Iowa and one isn't even close. Apple, meet Orange.

I hear what you are saying. One guy says, "We won 33-3? That was sloppy." Another guy says, "We beat Ball St 17-13? That's football" Slightly different mindset.

you obviously don't know a lot about wrestling and it's not limited to that.

And imported_ankle23, although a tad harsh with this reply, normally a good dude.

Sigh...Another urinating contest of a thread and another 90 seconds of my life I'll never get back.

He's talking about the mindset of the coaches and attitude that surrounds the program, and he is correct.
This. Brands is emotional and expects "perfection".

Ferentz is unemotional and expects "execution."

The goal Is the same but one guy you like listening to because he gets the juices flowing and the heart beating faster.

Op. Exactly what I was thinking when I saw the headline about Brands. I do love wrestling though and I knew once Iowa signed Brands he would do great things because he expects excellence and this resonates with his wrestlers. Check this other guy out though. He coaches in the same sport as Ferentz and he happens to be the coach of Tennessee the team who totally dominated the Hawks in Brands fashion in the Gator bowl. It's Butch Jones. This guy is a go-getter and is doing great things in Tennessee. He just signed the #5 ranked class in the nation so I think they'll keep improving. This is the type of coach we need. So polar opposite of Kirk Ferentz. Kind of like Bret Bielema. Check out his twitter to see for yourself:

Do you really think Kirk doesn't get frustrated with how his teams have been playing? Iowa has missed big time on the recruiting trail and that has lead to current state of Iowa football. Just because Kirk doesn't act like a wrestler on air doesn't mean he isn't frustrated with the state of his program.

You put Kirk in Tennessee and Butch at Iowa and see how each would recruit. Iowa needs to push the reset button and wake up when it comes to things like banning twitter, but Kirk never was and never will be someone that's going to tweet.

I disagree. UT's recruiting has been substandard for some time. Butch Davis is brining it back up to UT's "standard." kfootball isn't a zealous, energetic and relentless recruiter. Regarding the comparison between Brands and kfootball, one preaches domination from the start; demoralize your opponent. The other preaches "it's a process." If kfootball is so upset with bad losses, why do the continually occur? If he's such a great coach, why hasn't he fixed losing to MAC teams and ISU?

Because his recruiting has been awful of late. Evidence of this can be seen in the fact he started a FB at RB for the past 2 years. That has nothing to do with intensity, though. If you were to talk with most of his former players, I'd bet they would tell you KF is intense and wants to win as much as anyone else.
