Wednesday Presser Predictions

I'd be looking at how significant or deep are the announced changes.......the more significant, the more likely Ferentz actually recognizes some serious changes need to be made. For example, if both DC and OC are retained I think we're headed to continued mediocrity at best.

I'm also looking at what changes indicate that Ferentz recognizes we have a talent issue. For example are there any changes to the structure or personnel that are in the trenches daily trying to land talent for this program?

If the changes are minor and the same narrative of working harder, all jobs are open, and we're excited about preparing for this upcoming season then it will be a sad day indeed. The story with this program is much bigger than who is going to be the starting QB next year.

Here are some of my predictions of the info KF will give:

1. Greg Davis, Bobby Kennedy and Chris White are gone - will bring in Jay Norvell to partner with BF as Co-OCs
2. Kirk will say that he puts out a 2 deep every year in January internally....hoping to light a fire in guys by posting externally
3. JR will graduate in May and will look to transfer to another school for his final year of eligibility
4. KF will say that he has every intention of fulfilling the entire length of his contract

I'm thinking this will be pretty close to it.

I'm seriously sick of Ferentz blaming the state of Iowa on his recruiting failures. Wisconsin certainly hasn't had a problem bringing in talent. Neither has Boise State or Kansas State or Nebraska or Utah or hell even North Dakota State to some degree. Tell me what recruiting advantage the state of Wisconsin has over the State of Iowa? Ho Chunk Casinos? The Dells? It's just a friggin excuse. Nobody is asking for a top 10 recruiting class every year, but Iowa struggles to crack the top 60 losing regularly to schools like Vanderbilt.

Just wondering what everyone is expecting to hear. What would you be excited to hear? I would hope KF is a heck of a lot more open then his pressers in the past.

Major change is needed and evidently KF is staying. I heard rumblings from some people he had considered stepping down. They were wrong and that didn't happen. They are now saying Gerg is gone. I guess we will find out on Wednesday.

For prediction purposes I'll say GD and one or two other assistants are gone.

So what's your call?

3-5 year ext for KF, announced by himself. Bonus for winning over 4 games next season, keeping it close against ISU.

Since he has never said it, and never will, I'd like someone to put the words in his mouth for him and ask the following...."Coach, is a National Championship a goal of yours, and do you think that can be obtained using your current methodology of recruiting?" Or ask him if he thinks a National Championship can be won at Iowa? Since that would be sidestepped, just ask him "Coach, why does your recruiting suck....can you explain how you can compete for Big 10 Championships when you are 12th out of 13th in recruiting?

Don't forget Jon makes the same excuse for Kirk regarding recruiting.

There's a presser, Wednesday? For football? In January?

I predict I will not care, will not listen, will not read the transcript, just as I've not done the last several years whenever derKirkFer says anything.

The only thing that will tease my interest is if I hear he announced his resignation. Otherwise, I'll check back on football sometime next August. No sense ruining 8 months of the year.

He will name Brian "the most supreme offensive mind in the history of college football" and demand a lifetime contract and pay raise from Iowa. He will verify this with the tweet that once mentioned BF as the candidate for the Texans' Oline coach job.

Well, JDM says GD will stay because his boy will be taking the snaps, and JR will leave the team.

JR wins.

1. "Depth chart was put out to inspire hard work."
2. "Adrian Clayborn had an outstanding senior year and Iowa won a bunch of games."
3. "We will work hard this off season looking to improve."
4. "Andrew Stone is a try hard guy. He had a great career at his JUCO. He really brings some grit."
5. "Adam Cox will get a look at running back. He is a try hard guy."
6. "Jacob Hillyer will work out his right arm very hard this off season. He needs to improve his fair catch signal."
7. "That's football."

Really, I dont think he says much. Probably a bunch of drivel as usual.

I see White leaving, Hernandez leaving. Possibly Davis.

White must go. Special teams have been a joke from the fire drill Kick during a game and having two scolly holding kickers that have a less then 40 yard kick average. Plus I haven't seen many of the guys he's bringing in play or contribute much.

I'm not sure it's his fault that dumb*** Kurt decided to waste two schollys on crappy kickers. Kidd only averaged something like 36.2 yards per kick at JUCO. It doesn't exactly take a rocket scientist to see that he wasn't going to work out. Kickoff coverage was actually really good. Punt return has always sucked under Kurt and is a program issue. I get that our special teams are bad, but just like the offense, it has been a longstanding issue here and there are broader issues at work beyond the particular assistant that happens to be in charge at any given point in time.

OH, I forgot about Kennedy. I think he may be gone as well.

Barta announces a new 5 year contract extension for Ferentz!
If Barta announces a contract extension for KF, he better run because there will be no place in this state that he can hide from me. I'll punch him in his neck!

My prediction is: KF is holding this PC because he said earlier in the season that he wouldn't talk about "how the season turned out" until after the end of the season. So here he is, a man of his word. He'll sit there and field the questions that he shrugged off during the late season debacle. He'll spew the usual snarky nonsense. Nothing will change, or nothing of any consequence. He'll try and throw the fans and the media a positive spin on the future.
It will be Groundhog Day all over again. I anticipate Gary Barta attempting to order some flap jacks, through a slurred voice, when Bill Murray/KF is done speaking.

correct answer.

it doesn't matter what Kirk says or what superficial rearrangements he makes in the end he is incapable of change.
