EXACTLY WHAT POSITIVE THING DOES ALL THE NEGATIVITY ACHIEVE?

I need step away from this thread. It's just that I've seen friends buy into the only look at positive view of life only to get ruined financially and in other areas of life. It ticks me off when I see this being sold because so many get duped into believing it only to get screwed in the end.
There is a feedback mechanism. Recruits, players and coaches all read this board. When a guy like Ross P. decommits and morons take to badmouthing him, it makes other recruits and players take notice and then we get lower caliber recruits and have worse teams in the future. We get the program we deserve and with the lack of courtesy many folks exhibit on this board, it isn't a surprise we went from October 13, 2012 until this past Saturday without a win.

Are you really being serious?

People can crack jokes about it, but the comments they post on here are seen by recruits, coaches, and current players. You never know how it will be received. They should not look too far into ridiculous comments made by fans who think they know what they're talking about. However, there's idiotic posts made here in a massive number. I'd hate to have some of those comments represent the Iowa fanbase to a possible recruit. You can't predict how things will be received by a 17 or 18 year old kid.

Venting is perfectly normal and probably good in some ways to get frustrations out just as long as it doesn't become one's constant way of life. I've been honest and open about how I feel about the situation. I hope for the best but at some point if things don't improve a change will have to be made. I think if we have less than six wins this year and less than seven next year the it's time for a change and we will just have to pony up to get the money together from boosters to make it happen. I am hoping the team develops and improves as we move along this year. I think Jake has done a good job so far and I expect him to continue to improve and as he does I think the rest of the team will follow in step. If not and we win only three or four games this year it will be Barta's turn at the end of this season to publicly state that this can not continue going into the next season just as he did with Alford. I'll wait and see how things go as we move along this season. Here's HOPiNG for the best but also realizing it may not happen.

Freed your one of the people that can have a discussion and not just call people names who you disagree with. There is somthing to be said for being positive. Also as Okeeffor prez says. The boards are monitered and can have effect. Doesant meen we cant have discussions or differing opinions

I enjoy discussing the teams problems with other Hawk fans. But I dont care for people bashing just because they cant get their way on a coaching change. It is the sort of thing that will take care of its self if KF doesnt get this turned around

^^ Agree.

I post on here and read posts because I have loved to listen to and watch hawkeye sports for decades and I love to talk with other fans about it, good or bad.

Way back in the Fry days he took his team to a season opener in Hawaii, the hawks took the opening kickoff and drove a long way down to a 4th and goal at about the 2 yard line. I was hoping for field goal at that point, Fry went for it and missed which I understand why he did that also, but at the time I thought it was important to reward the team with 3 points.

It was a big topic of discussion with my friends at the bar

Are you saying you are, "hoping for the best but planning for the worst to happen"? I think my mom and dad used to say that. Is that the same as having a plan b if a doesn't work out?

Oh great, another "It's the fans' fault our program sucks" post.

Not like the coaches should have anything to do with recruiting and player retention, or the on-field results. Or that fans at other schools wouldn't be the same way. Just an "Iowa Thing"?

Read his post again. What he said is true. That doesnt meen coaches arnt responsible for what they do.

yes, it comes from being a father, husband, and scout master. By the way there was a Comanche that used to be over on hawk central is that you?

I agree that the name calling is unnecessary, calling people stupid just because they don't agree with your opinion is ridicules. But I have seen that come from both sides, in fact I have noticed a few posters here that seems like their only goal is to point out others flaws and to look for opportunities to make fun by using words like stupid and delusional. I enjoy these forums when people come here to add to the discussion, even if I do not agree with it. If we all thought the same way and agreed with each other all the time forums would be a boring place to visit.

Expecting everyone to remain positive with what we are seeing on the football field is unreasonable. If recruits, players, and coaches are coming here and reading this stuff then that is great. But this forum is no different than any other teams forums, heck even Alabama has negativity posted on it. I have a hard time believing that any recruit allows a forum play a part in his college choice.

What you did there...

...I see it.

It's sad that you think we have "sides" now. We're all Hawk fans in here. My only "side" is the side pulling for a W every week.

GO HAWKS

Being negative is the fans way of showing the displeasure inthe quality of product being put on the field. Fans still support the players and University; in fact I would say thatif anything it shows how much the fans support the football program.

I am really surprised by the negativity on this "fan" site. I don't see what discussing how bad we are achieves; it certainly doesn't help the morale of any fan or players, and could discourage possible recruits. We are 1-1, and people seem to be writing the team off. The assumption seems to be that we will not gain experience, not learn from mistakes, and not improve. WHY buy into that when we have a young team, and it is early in the season? If you watch other college teams and check out the scores, there are plenty of mistakes being made everywhere. The Hawks have a fair chance of winning each of the next four games, and I won't count them out of any game, especially at Kinnick. One step at a time. We broke the losing streak; now we need to get pumped to beat ISU. One thing that attracts players and coaches to Iowa is our supportive fan base; WHAT IS THE POINT of eroding it?

While I agree with a lot of what you said, particularly supporting the players, the days of Kinnick being a tough place to play came and went a long time ago.

They played solid games against Northwestern & Michigan there in 2011 but you have to go back to the MSU game in 2010 when Iowa really played a maxed out type of game in Kinnick.

Of course that comment probably makes me a non-fan because it isn't positive.

The criticism of KF and where this program is currently at (just coming off a 7 game losing streak by haphazardly beating a mediocre FCS team), is completely justified.

Iowa fans deserve much better than this.

That said, the season is still early. Lets maybe give it a few more games before we light up our pitchforks.

It's too bad that so many fall for the "be positive all the time no matter what" new age crap. Reality is both good and bad. Life is good and bad. A lot of folks have been brain washed into believing that if anybody talks about something bad then it's a sin. There is nothing wrong with any of us hear discussing reality. Feel free to post any time you want about anything, but don't try to shut anybody up just because they might mention or even discuss something that may not be "all mighty positive."

WHile this makes sense to a point(such as, I'll try and find the positive in my wife banging my best friend), I don't see the gain in being excessively negative about stuff that doesn't matter.

In all earnestness, if a football game has an effect on your mood more than 5 minutes after the game, you're a loser.
