comparing kenpom rankings

these 6 players played a big role in beating Indiana at home

Gatens scored 30 points at home against Indiana. 38.5% of the teams points that day.

Brommer had 2 and Stokes had 2.

The returning players that are going to play against Indiana this year accounted for 44 points that day, or 56.4% of the points scored.

So the returning 6 players that day only scored 14 more points combined than Gatens did that day. You want to discredit all of Gatens accomplishments last season but we dont beat Indiana or Wisconsin at home without him.

and for the record. no I am not expecting a top 10 ranking if Iowa makes the sweet 16. this is the problem Dr. T om dealt with all 13 years and that was overblown expectations of the fans considering the level of talent the other teams in the BT have, Teams like MSU, OSU and Michigan are not suddenly fall off the map thatr will allow other teams to just move to the top.
we have to rely on Frans ability to "COACH" and continue to get better recruits to continue to improve their standings
sorry if some of you can't/wont accept this, but in the BT its all about "COACHING" THAT CAN AND DOES , that makes the difference between winning and losing, not the star rankings of a kid
Kentucky with all the 5* kids is not even in the AP Top25 and is just 23rd in the coaches poll

Who are you talking to with this post?

Indiana Hoosiers vs. Iowa Hawkeyes - Box Score - February 19, 2012 - ESPN

so you are saying that Marble who is now avg 15.7 ppg an increase from 11.5 ppg vs Gatens 15.2 ppg "CAN'T" do what Gatens did.

Red, please tell me you read this and understood that Gatens was a huge reason that Iowa won that game and he is gone.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Nice post herbster. Best one you have ever had.

He so badly wanted to post a rebuttal. So badly. But he just couldn't muster anything up and couldn't figure out how to get out of the page without clicking the post button.

I'm pretty sure that's how that happened.

I would be willing to guarantee that Marble will not duplicate Gatens stats from last years game against Indiana in Carver if you are willing to guarantee that Marble will. Whoever is wrong has to stop posting until basketball season is over.

Deal?

No one.....i repeat NO ONE....raved about how tough a schedule Indiana had. No one in the media, no one on this message board, and no one on Indiana's message board. Let's just get that out of the way. Secondly, the reason Indiana is rated higher than Iowa (despite the fact that they are a better team, unfortunately) is because we have played 3 teams that are worse than Indiana's worst team. Iowa has literally played 3 of the worst teams in division one basketball. That is going to kill anybody's rankings.

I think once you get into the high 200s - 300s, you're really splitting hairs about how bad a team is compared to another team

No one said that Marble "CAN'T" do what Gatens did. But you seem to expect it to happen. You can't expect a 15 ppg guy to double his production for a game.

I believe everyone here thinks Iowa can win...they just don't expect it to be easy. Where as you seem to make it out that Indiana is an easy win because of last year. No win is easy. I expect a win against Nebraska but I know that last year we screwed the pooch in that game and didn't do what we should.

Not only double his production, but do so against one of the greatest assembled teams in the history of any level of basketball.

Clemmons didn't have any high major offers other than Iowa and he is starting for Iowa.
How is this possble, herby?

Something is amiss here.

I read it, but Marble was not the go to guy then, Gatens was, I loved what Gatens did for this team, this is different Marble that has become the go to guy, and the best thing is he does not have to do it by himself.
last season we did not have 7'1 Woodbury to go up against 7'0 Zeller, then we have a improved Gabe to throw in there,
sorry I know you hate heights, but we also have 6'9 Freshman AA White to go up against 6'9 Watford.
face it Iowa did not have that ability to match player for player height wise, and even skill wise
Woodbury is still a top 40 player and he has faced top level talent at the center spot on the AAU circuit.
White showed how good he was, sorry if this offends people but Indian just is not that more superior to Iowa talent wise,
personally I expect a 5th to 6th place finish this year, as Purdue and Wisconsin seems to be dropping, as they lost quite a bit the last 2 years, but has as been posted before a Bo Ryan coached team has never finished out of the top 4 in the BT and until that happens no reason to think it will this year

Whoa whoa whoa...Slow down.

I still want an explanation for why Indiana returning all 5 starters is a bad thing, but Iowa returning 6 of their top 8 scorers is a good thing.

Thats easy. We beat them last year and now replace those guys with even BETTER guys.

not really he was a stud defensive back and most in Michigan felt he would play FB at the next level just like a lot felt Alexander would be a WR at the next level but he wants to play BB. and is now going to Mississippi St.
Clemmons by the Michigan rankings was the #1 PG in the state of Michigan, the #3 player in the state and made the 1st teams super state,
my question to you is do you really think the #3 player in Michigan is just a 2* player
some kids are judged by who offerrs and who they commit to rather than their skills
I would be willing to bet if Woodbury had signed with UNC, Woodbury would have gotten that 5th *.
even Paige went from the 37th best to being the 22nd best after signing with UNC
White is a prime example of players getting snubbed for not getting the right offers
this is even worse with FB
