teams should prove they can win their conference before annointing them the greatest in the country.

So making the sweet sixteen isn't proving anything. So the only team that can be picked to win a conference in the preseason is the team that won the previous yr? They are preseason picks they are all conjecture. So we can't pick iowa to finish 6th in the big ten because they haven't proven lately that they can do it.
Indiana finished 5th in the BT, and the teams in front of them all recruited top talent, as well as returning the core of their teams
as for ranking I feel thewy should wait till evereybody is halfway thru thjeir conference season before the rankings come out
as for the star power how do you explain Butler beating Indiana with this for recruiting success

in the end it all comes down to coaching and in the Butler game Crean was flat out, out coached
with the same starting lineup Indiana lost 6 road games in the BT including losses to Nebraska at home and a home loss to Minnesota. that's quite a lot to change in one summer, and Minnesota is to be much improved with Mbakwe being back and Illinois looks pretty good and they beat Butler
I still stand by prediction of 10-8 in conference play even with a sweet 16 this year by Iowa I am not going to go overboard with my expectation, there are just to many good teams in the BT to just go gaga over any particular team

Please stop talking out both sides of your mouth. Either you believe stars of players matter or you believe they don't. Here you talk about how they don't matter because crean got out coached. Then other times you say that iowa and indiana had similar recruiting classes (which implies they do matter).
Indiana has a lot of talent and they are not leaning on the freshmen to carry them. Therefore along with their sweet sixteen finish people predict good things for them. If you remember we have a lot of things to clean up from last yr. I believe we lost to nebby. Don't have a double standard and only look at the indiana's deficiencies.

Webber was a great recruiter but could not coach those players, getting them and then have the ability to coach them are 2 different things
Ravelling was a great recruiter but it took Dr.Toms coaching to bring out the best in those players
Lute was good at both recruiting and coaching, Bobby Knight was good at this, Izzo at MSU can do this just like Coach K for Duke, in no way shape or form am I ready to put Crean in this groups class

Seriously, is it an Illinois thing? I mean Zook could recruit with anyone in the country but he couldn't coach to save his life.
its not a Illinois thing, its just a fact of life, some can recruit but can't coach that talent. some can't recruit top talent but can coach, its a rare thing to find a coach that can recruit and coach, this is vwhat seperates Izzo, Coach K, Knight, Olson and Wooden from the others.
this is why I am hoping Fran can bring Iowa back to the days of Mr. Davis going to the dance winning in the 1st round every year with a chance of making a FF.although Iowa has only been there 3 times in over 100 years of playing BB in school history
Fran appears to be the type that can coach and recruit, only time will tell,
that's simply my opinion. but Iguess having a opinion different from the lemming mentallity results in filthy name calling as well as other tidbits
why because my opinion does not follow the other lemmings over the cliff. in the mad rush to declare Indiana the greatest team this year?

Who ANYWHERE has done that? At this point in time, I don't think anyone (save for a few Indiana fans, perhaps) believes Indiana is the best team in the country.
It's the same people who won't shut the **** up about how tough Indiana's schedule is!!

You know Crean has already coached a Final Four team, right? And he recruited the players there, right?
Dwyane Wade coached that team! Herby is an idiot and has some crazy *** rants, but his Crean isn't a good game coach argument is not that crazy. It was a knock on him at Marquette at too.
