I get sick and tired about people raving about how tough a schedule that Indiana had.
that's nothing but a bunch oF BS
these are the standongs os of today Dec. 27th 2012
as of 2 weeks ago VT was 77th by pomeroy but because of injuries have fallen
when you look at who Indiana has played you really think these teams are going to stay where they are
Central Conn, there is no ST it is Central Conn 199
Florida Atlantic 259
Mount St May's 267
Sam Houston St 273
Jacksonville 308 to be played this weekend
all these team are riding the pomeroy rankings of Indiana
Indiana is not Gods Gift to College BB, kneel at the alter of Indiana BB all you want.
some of you act like this is the greatest team ever assembled, forget it Bobby Knight BB Championship with Smrt leading them would mop the floor with these guys and Olodipo, is not Smart nor is he the 2nd coming

No one.....i repeat NO ONE....raved about how tough a schedule Indiana had. No one in the media, no one on this message board, and no one on Indiana's message board. Let's just get that out of the way. Secondly, the reason Indiana is rated higher than Iowa (despite the fact that they are a better team, unfortunately) is because we have played 3 teams that are worse than Indiana's worst team. Iowa has literally played 3 of the worst teams in division one basketball. That is going to kill anybody's rankings.

SOS comparisons:

StatSheet RPI: Iowa SOS - 251, Indiana SOS - 82
Kenpom: Iowa SOS - 332, Indiana SOS - 284
Sagarin: Iowa SOS - 320, Indiana SOS - 299

But then again I missed the part where anyone was saying Indiana played a tough schedule. Haven't read or heard that anywhere.

Its more than likely the multiple voices talking inside ole herbys noggen.

Not to pick a fight but if you go side by side all but one of their opponents on the left is ranked higher than ours on the right. So overall a "tougher" schedule...but by no means tough.

this is my problem with SOS on Ken pom there is just 0ne team below their SOS at 346 and 6 teams inside the top 150, and 3 inside the top 100 and yet it is only 332
sorry but it does not add up
CMU has jumped from the 300 range to 258, and with them Playing Michigan this weekend it will be interesting to see if they fall or go up
Coppin St, right now is the only common opponent
IU went 31-60, 8-24 from 3 17-20 for a 36 point victory 87-51
Iowa went 31-60 0-17 from 3 and 18-31 ftl for a 30 point victory 80-50
Iowa shoots just 33% give or take from 3 6-17 and shoots 75% from the line 23-31 = a 103 to 50 point blowout
thats still not as good as Indiana shot
Indiana only had 37 rebounds vs Coppin St Iowa had 50
rebounding to date Indiana 42.3 rpg Iowa 41.6 rpg Iowa is no pushover

If you get sick and tire of ravings, here's the tip, turn your hearing aid off and relax and smile . Pray to Mayans for Hawks to Crean out the Hoosiers outtta of Carver and in BTT. You're my boy Herby...

It really doesn't even matter at this point. Last I checked the Tournament Committee isn't convening until March, and by then we will have actually played a tough schedule. So long as we take care of the teams we should and compete with the others, hopefully upsetting some teams along the way, the out of conference SOS will be pretty unimportant.

That's great and all, but you stated - "I get sick and tired about people raving about how tough a schedule that Indiana had. that's nothing but a bunch oF BS"

Can you help us out and let us know where you are hearing/reading people raving about their tough schedule? I haven't been able to find any evidence to support this claim. Thanks in advance.

What Herby is getting at is that people think Iowa will have trouble in the BoneG because they played such a weak schedule, but no one says the same about IU in the BoneG, despite playing a pretty bad schedule as well.

Herby is lashing out at the haters who have the audacity to believe IU stands a chance against Iowa this week.

KenPom does not give one crap about anything in this post. And neither does anybody on this message board.

I can picture Herby, wearing a top hat and monocle, sitting in his study with a velvet robe and tumbler of brandy, trying in vein to understand numbers synthesized through statistical analysis. Failing to comprehend them, he tosses his brandy into the roaring fireplace and declares them all wrong.

Buzzy Killington?

I picture Herby as either Will Hunting after an extreme drug addiction, just struggling to get his next fix between mathematical equations.

You forgot to mention that he then blames the brandy for jumping into the fireplace.

You seriously just compared Iowa and IU in their games against Coppin State. Do you seriously think it's even moderately relevant? Seriously?

Iowa can most definitely beat IU at home but this Coppin State game performance comparison is beyond worthless.

last years starters for Indiana
Zeller
Watford

just what changed that suddenly make Indiana a top 5 team and the favorite to win the BT

They played together last yr. Got better and came back this yr. They weren't bad last yr and experience and time together helps. They have a lot of talent.

No one has said that indiana has played a murderer's row or that iowa has no chance. Most just understand we upset them last yr and you can't bank on that happening again. We match up well with them. And I think most that think iowa will lose have it has a close game. I for one think iowa has a good shot at winning but if they win it will be close and if they lose it will be close.

In fact I think indiana is the 2nd best team in the b1g so I am not jumping on their bandwagon. But everyone needs to respect their ability. I guarantee the players expect to win (on both sides) but no one is taking the other team for granted. You (herby) try to come off like this is a virtual lock of a win. It isn't. Losing to nebby last yr should remind you of that.

tell me just what makes people put Indiana in the top 5 in the country and the front runner for bthe BT Title
last year
Zeller
Watford
Sheehey
Oladipo
Hulls
were the starters
they are the same this year.
and this is the same group that Iowa minus Gatens beat. and as I pointed out Iowa returns 6 of their top 8 scorers or 5 of their top 6
both added top 25 classes, unless you are saying Iowa's top 25 class is not very good
my point is everybody in the BT upgraded the talent on their teams
