Zambrano willing to waive no trade clause

Zambrano has proven to be a head case, and just really isn't all that good anymore. He used to be one of my favorite Cubs pitchers, but it looks like Z's best days are behind him. The Cubs are paying him an awful lot of money for an ERA north of 4.5 this year.. I'd rather see them go in a different direction.

Even if the Cubs don't trade Z this year, what are they going to do once his contract is up? I sure wouldn't keep paying him $18 million+ per year on a new contract.. I can't see Zambrano in a Cubs jersey for a whole lot longer.

Z has said this is his last contract. He wants to be with his kids. However, I never believe anything an athlete says, they just try to please people. I don't see the cubs resigning him even if it is for the league minimum. The contract is just another Blunder of Hendry's.

Take anything they can get for him. The Cubs are no worse without him. He's a cancer to the clubhouse and needs to go.

Nothing to see here.

Reporter: What would you say if the Cubs came to you and said they really don't want you around anymore, that they'd rather you go somewhere else, what would you do?

Z: Well I guess if they really don't want me around I'd accept a trade.

Reporter: Z will waive no trade clause!

For all those banging on Z yes his temper gets him into trouble sometimes, but he's been a very solid and consistent pitcher over the course of his career. He's never finished a season with an ERA over 4.00 since he joined the rotation full time.

It's also foolish to chalk this up as a bad decision by Hendry. He signed a young pitcher (27 at the time) who was comming of five consecutive season of double digit wins and 200+ innings pitched to a five year deal. It's always a risk to sign a pitcher to a long term deal but that's about as safe as you can get.

Z's whole deal is he needs to win and he needs to play for a winner. It's just the way hes wired. He's not a cancer in the clubhouse, he's just a guy that is a lot more fun to be around when the team is playing well than when it isn't playing well. There are a lot of guys out there like that.

If Z does get moved to a winner I'll go on record that he will close out the season much like he closed out last season.

I am a life long Cubs fan and obviously in the minority here as I am a big fan of Zambrano's. Personally I would hate to lose him but I think he sees the writing on the wall and knows that if ever wants to have a chance to get to the WS, it ain't gonna be with the Cubs. I just hope for his sake they can wrangle a deal with a contender that has a realistic chance for success. I see him as a definite asset to any team that has the ingredients to win big, something that my Cubs, unfortunately, cannot claim.

Z is one of those guys that can fuel your team when they're on fire, or bring them down when everything isn't going there way. Unfortunately with the Cubs it's a lot of the latter and Z shows his emotions.

I love emotion, don't get me wrong, but I like Garza's more than Z's. Garza is fired up for the game when it isn't his day to pitch, he loves his team and the game. Z is just fired up or ****** off when things don't go well for him.

You could justify any one of the moves the Cubs have made over the past several years. However, when you combine all of their moves together, it has put them in a very bad place. It seems there was very little long term thinking, and now the product is garbage. Time to start over. This means get rid of any big payroll guys you can ASAP.

Typical Z start. Gives up a few runs early then settles in.

The more I watch Pena, the more I think he wouldn't be a terrible consolation prize in the Pujols/Fielder sweepstakes. Obviously wouldn't want him for a longterm deal, but for 2-3 years at least you know you're getting a good defendor and good lockerroom presence along with good power from the left side with a good OBP.
