You making the trip to Tempe?

My mind set as of right now:

  • Can't wait to see the Hawks in Tempe - definitely going

    Votes: 13 11.1%

  • Thinking about it, but undecided right now

    Votes: 7 6.0%

  • Usually always go bowling with the Hawks, but not this year

    Votes: 34 29.1%

  • Always watch from my couch. Same this year

Just trying to get a gut check on who's going to head out to Tempe and who's going to stay home. My gut tells me that the willingness and desire to head to the Insight Bowl is going to be significantly less than in previous years.

I've been to every Iowa bowl game since the Jan 2003 Orange Bowl, but I'm not making the trip this year. The risk/reward factor doesn't seem to be there for me.
 
I would consider it but I took off work last year to go to Miami and would have to sell my soul to get out of work this year. I would have done it for BCS game but not much else.

Yes were going taking the family its our winter getaway each year this is our third year of doing this, staying in the same hotel as the team as usual and its always a good time.

If I can find a cheap flight I'll be going. Doesn't look likely right now though, all seem pretty high.

How easy of a drive is it from Vegas if we flew into there?

According to this, roughly 5 1/2 to 6 hour drive. I don't know if US-93 is a 4 lane divided road or not.

I'm flying into Vegas on pretty decent fare out of Cedar Rapids then driving down to Phoenix. Flights into Phoenix right now are ridiculous!!
 
As I sit here and look out my window today, I'm pretty sure I made the right decision to go down there. Even if we were playing Bayor, I would still go!! Could be the the Hell with the game anyway, just enjoy the weather!!
 
I am going to try and stay awake for it, but with a 10:00 weeknight start, I am not even going to promise that.

Two different routes out of Vegas to Phoenix. HWY 93 which takes you over the dam or HWY 95, which by-passes the dam but is a little longer route. Not bad drive either way, done it dozens of times.
 
I would love to go. I have gone the last two years but not this year. I'm still paying off my Orange bowl trip. That's what I get for taking my husband and daughter along. Think they would help me pay off the card?? Nooooooooo. I also have a daughter getting married in May so gotta save the cash for that. If we had gone to the Rose or NC....I would have figured out a way to rationalize that expenditure!
 
UI, 1997 grad here.

76, is it all 4 lane? Which of the 2 would you recommend? Does it take the full 5 1/2 hours that mapquest says it does?
 
We usually go. We have a newborn at home though. If we'd have gone to the Rose Bowl, we'd have figured something out (sorry kid!). Other than that, we sort of figured we'd have to pass on this year.
 
I said I'll never miss another bowl game after the Cap One Bowl and never have. I don't plan on starting this year!

Yup. Four of us will be there for that exact reason. Game is frosting on the cake regardless of opponent.
