Yay, the pressure is off to win a bowl game :-(

Whatever the bowl...Kirk needs to draw an opponent with a predictable game plan and a team that doesn't have quickness and a team that doesn't really care about being there...if so, well the stars will align and Kirk will be a winner in a bowl again..get emotional...resign, turn things over to the boy.

Fry was incredible fun to listen to and his teams fun to watch. He didn't always win the "Big game" but usually it wasn't from lack of imagination.
 
Sounds like this argument really boils down to style points. Not that it's right or wrong, but that is human nature.

Hayden was entertaining and beloved. That alone gives him a longer leash, but, objectively, their results are quite similar.
 
Im not saying i like KF better even though certain iowa hawkeye haters here believe i worship KF. I dont. I think any discussion of him being terrible is asinine, especially by Fry stache' sniffers lol i loved hayden too. As i said, if it was as easy as telling me if we choose coach X we will be favored year in and year out to win big ten titles, sign me up. Ill pack KF's bags. He would too. I think both his and Fry's work is underappreciated at Iowa. Both are tremendous coaches that develop less talent into good football players.

Right, ill give him that. Absolutely, a master program builder and i give him the nod for that very reason. Absolutely. I just dont buy, "the rest of the story." The 1990's werent Fry's best years save 1990-1991. They were once again bottom feeders when KF took over and no guarantee that 20 yrs of success would continue. KF overhauled a sinking ship as well. So, yes, Fry by a nose, but save the "KF is a terrible coach" psycho-babble for the nut house folks. He doesnt meet your expectations. Fine. Doesnt make him a bad coach. Again, unless style is your only evidence, its a dead heat.

Hayden Fry got blown out by Washington x 2, barely beat San Diego St., tied BYU, lost to n.c. state, barely beat Wyoming, texas was in shambles, California blow out....i think the sun bowl vs washington was his highlight win....texas in the freedom bowl, but they were way down. The more things change, the more they stay the same?

Ferentz is the Zen master of the meaningless press conference. Watching him do an interview is slightly more entertaining than watching paint dry. The problem though is Iowa's offense is often slightly more entertaining than watching paint dry. Don't get me wrong, Ferentz has many virtues but you have to be a bit of a masochist to root for Iowa's combination of sputtering ball control offense and bend but don't break defense. I think Iowa is in the top five in close games over the last 15 years or so. Thus the tendency to win games you have no business winning and lose to Purdue.

You can hide behind saying it's just hyperbole or sarcasm or irony. But it's not. It would be nice to win. Hopefully last year is not a predictor. Crush Nebraska then get crushed in another bowl game.

Not crazy about him trying to prove to NFL scouts that he can throw from the pocket by lighting up Iowa. I can see Petrino coming up with a gameplan just to show Jackson can throw from the pocket.
