WOW!!! Padilla's QB coach is a bit grumpy

Whether Petras was injured or KF just gave him some cover for being replaced, the objective was to make Petras “think about it,” which Petras obviously did. He came out calmer, less hyper -- looking like a wiser QB. Padilla did great for the team, but he’s new, still needing to get used to things. He got out of control and needed to be replaced – he’ll learn from this for when he gets called on again. But this doesn’t mean Padilla or Petras is innately deficient in some sinister way; unless Petras starts blatantly missing targets again, then bring in Padilla to refocus Petras.

We need to use both QB’s against Mishy. They’ll too easily get used to Petras’ lack of dynamism; we’re not good enough to give Mishy that benefit. Both QB’s will require Mishy to make more adjustments than planned. Let’s match up Petras and Padilla respectively with their favorite receiver targets.

Good luck with that LOL. This is a coaching staff that had Noah Fant and TJ Hockensen on the same roster and struggled to find ways to utilize them on the field at the same time.

Alternate QB's? It would take a lot of convincing. But they've pushed enough correct buttons to get to this position.

Not a defender of everything Kirk, but I think he handled the Padilla/Petras quarterback situation perfectly.

The WUW are correct, they are borderline interchangeable. Somewhat different skill sets similar results.

Those two are so close to me. I mean would the betting line even move if one started the game over the other. I don't think it would. I think the production would be that close.

I have absolutely zero issues with the change being made to go from Padilla over Petras, whether injured or not. Nor did I have any issues with the change being made on Friday to go with Petras in the second half. It should be like this at all times. Both QB's are tested, albeit Padilla is still getting his feet wet, so why feel compelled to stay with one if it isn't there. Regardless of who starts, if it isn't there see what the backup has to offer. I said it before and I'll say it again, I care more about who finishes the game then I do who starts it.

I have to think the flu situation played a role as well, considering that's why they subbed in new o linemen.

I think Petras will start on Saturday even though Padilla seems like a better fit against that pass rush. Petras gets way too deep on his drops. That being said, Iowa's offensive gameplan should lean heavily on inside zone running since that's where they seem to have found success in the back half of the season. If teams like Nebraska and Rutgers can play UM close, so can Iowa.

That is some sour grapes there man.
How ya think that first convo between he and Padila went after that game? Padilla whole heartily agree with him or tell him to lay off Twitter in regards to talking about him? I know as a player which way I'd lean but that's just me...

Probably didn't ask Spencer for his coaches info...

The coach opened up a can of worms by bringing up Spencer's stats.

6-2 (Not listing NW or Nebby games due to offsetting early benchings.)
58% Completion (low to mid 60s before the injury)
120 qbr

Vs

3-0
46.7% completion
101 qbr

Not to mention look at the competition difference PSU, Wicy, Purdue (fantastic dlinemen), and ISU (Superbowl) vs Ill, Minny, and NWestern.

Receivers:
Tracy, Nico, Jones

Vs

Jones, Johnson, AB4

I agree and that's why if I'm Padilla I'm almost compelled to apologize to him for it. Not that he should but it's just how I'd might feel if I were him. It's such a not cool thing to do during the game... Even after knowing the result of said game is bad but during it is just next level.

Other kids and their parents that he'll want to train will know he'd done this and it's gonna be on his resume. Not a good look at all.

The timing was right to change to Spence

Especially with the smothering D, the change enabled us to win

The D was the player of the game

Yes, that is a tough spot. I would prefer that be handed in private and not aired out over twitter. Nothing ever seems to come good of twitter with athletes and coaches posting negative stuff.

I will politely disagree and say that special teams deserve the game ball. But the defense was a close second.
In my opinion while I agree I think this one was a total team effort. Despite the score at the half the offense was actually moving the ball and left 14 points off the board with the failed 4th and goal and Goodson's fumble. The numbers weren't necessarily pretty, but for this offense they were atleast moving the ball.

Exhibit A why KF had not allowed it for quite awhile I suppose. It's just drama be it directly or indirectly that could be avoided I suppose. Common sense says to address it in private and 1 on 1. But that wasn't the goal of that coach. He wanted to blast the coaches at the expense of his client and teammate pretty much.. Not exactly the adult way to go about handling it.

In my opinion the most likely (if any) transfer candidate in the Iowa QB pool are either Padilla or Petras. I'm thinking this game has the potential to form some clarity on who that might be. I think we may see them both on Saturday ........which probably wouldn't be a good sign for predicting game outcome.

I guess I would include Deuce in the conversation as well IF he hasn't lived up to expectations in practice and is hearing footsteps behind him.

I rewatched the game last night

The D after the husker TD early in the third quarter shut them down Hard

Safety, QB Sacking, Interception, and really aggressive play

The Hawks conditioning is outstanding

These guys never tire

The huskers were exhausted in the fourth quarter, offense and defense

They also gave up. They were tired of losing every game in the fourth quarter

You could see it in their faces

The fans in the seats were crushed

Crushed, I Say
