Would this scenario change your mind??

Based on that logic, how the heck has any mid major coach ever made the jump? There are an entire list of coaches that made the jump, some pretty big names. Are you going to write off every mid major coach just because of our bad experience with TL?

Right now, unless a candidate has swam with the sharks at some point in his career, yes

i appreciate optimism and faith.

However, Jacobson has never recruited at the level he'd have to recruit at to be successful at Iowa. Not ever, in his career. So what you are basing this off of is blind faith. We've been down this road before. When you compare what Jacobson has done to other solid mid majors in the dance this year and the resumes of their coaches, there is a HUGE hole lacking in Jake's resume, and that is putting in time as an assistant at a high major program, which means knowing what it takes to recruit to a high major program because you know what you are up against. He's never done that. Nor had Alford. Nor had Lickliter. We've been there and done that and we are in a nuclear winter situation right now because of it.

Spot on. The same reason why I'd take Forbes over Jacobson any day.

UNI could play for the national title and I still think it would be a huge mistake to hire him. One, two, or three emotional wins does not make Jake a good hire for Iowa. We have been down this road with Lick and Alford, the resumes are nearly identical. Iowa needs a RECRUITER, end of story. We do not need to go hire a coach that dominated the weakest Missouri Valley league in the last decade...no thanks.
+1

Not at all. What signs are there that Ben jacobson could recruit big ten caliber talent? many better choices that are realistic for IA. I would honestly take Forbes over Ben Jacobson even if UNI made run to final 4.

I disagree with your arguments in this thread Jon. If i am hearing you correctly you would rather have a top level asst like Forbes instead of Jacobson? I dont think Iowa can get a BCS level head coach and will either be forced to hire an assistant or a mid major coach. I would much rather have a guy who hasnt recruited at the big ten level than a coach who's never been a successful D1 coach

Dismissing all mid major coaches who havent recruited at an "eilte level" is very short sighted imo. Especially when you look at our situation objectively and see that we probably wont be able to hire a proven coach from a BCS conference

Jacobson isnt my 1st choice but i do think he would do a good job and i would rather have him than Forbes, and it isnt even close

I agree 100%. Half of what an assistant is recruiting on is the head coach he works for...now some assistant is going to have to recruit on the premise of "come play for this guy, oh you've NEVER heard of him before? Well let me tell you about how great of recruiter he was as an assistant."

The only way Iowa takes a look at Jacobson and seriously considers him if an asst. coach with a very good recruiting background joins Jacobson.

I think Jacobson would make a great coach at Iowa but will the fans be patient or will we see a repeat of what's happening in Ames? Great coach but can he recruit the level of athlete with the basketball IQ to make it work.

I'm not going to get into ISU's problem's but when you compare ISU to UNI this year....big thing that stands out is solid guard play and team chemistry.

I just can't see Jacobson at Iowa. Great guy who is about to get paid.

It didnt work out for ISU to hire Mac bujt keep in mind Jacobson was the brains behind MCDerrmot's operation in Cedar Falls. It isnt a coincidence that after he left UNI didnt miss a beat. I dont think Iowa will hire him, but whoever does is going to be very happy over the next several years

While I wish UNI the best I am not in agreement that he should be our next coach. The guy can flat out coach and develop players to that I have no argument. IMO Iowa needs to go after a guy that will play a more uptempo style of play.
