Shada I want to thank you for being the voice of reason on this board.
It is refreshing to see someone actually remember what happened a few years back rather than wishing Alfraud was back.
There a lot of differing opinions when it comes to the state of the basketball, and what needs to happen going forward. There are the people who think that Lick needs to be gone after this year and see everything in terms of wins and losses. There is some merit to that, as that is ultimately how a coach is judged.
Then there those people - like me - who are able to recognize that Lickliter was dealt a significant blow last year when 1/3 of his roster walked out the door, essentially putting him back to day 1.
Whatever side of the fence you're on, you knew that this was going to a long, challenging year and that this team was going to be tough to watch at times. We all knew that this team would have some games like they had Saturday afternoon.
What some in the "fire Lick now" crowd don't seem to understand, or are unwilling to accept, is that a team as young as Iowa - at least this year - can't be judged on wins and losses. If that is the only barometer you're going to use as to how the team is performing, you're not being realistic.
If you knew going into the season that this team was going to struggle mightily at times, you can't get all bent out of shape when they do struggle, as that's exactly what you expected to happen.
Iowa plays Minnesota in the season finale on March 7. If the result then is the same as it was Saturday afternoon, then the cause for concern is warranted, as Lickliter and the rest of the coaching staff, along with the team as a whole will not have learned from their mistakes and corrected those mistakes.
I would be shocked if this team isn't playing better basketball by the end of the year than they are right now, but that doesn't mean that the only way to measure progress is in the W/L column.
Edit - When I used the word "you", it wasn't referring to you specifically. More of a general term.
