O-Line Moore Award Semifinalist

Iowa is averaging over 200 rushing yards per game against many of the best defenses in the country. If you don't believe me, study the Massey ratings: Ohio State is rated #1 in defense in the country; Iowa State 13th; Minnesota 19th; Wisconsin 20th; Washington 23rd; Nebraska 24th; UCLA 33rd; Michigan State 41st; Northwestern 43rd. The Big Ten is full of great defensive teams.

This consideration for the Moore award is deserved. The problem this year hasn't been the offense. It has been plenty good enough. The problem has been our defense being a bit more more porous than last year. Combine last year's defense with this year's offense and I think we would be 8-2 right now, minimum. But it didn't pan out that way. We lost two close games that we should have won because of the defense, in my opinion.

Thereyou go again, making sense with actual data! Will you never learn?

Iowa won the award in 2016. This year’s line and the one in 2016 feel pretty similar. I get the argument that the 2016 award was just a nod for Kirk to his mentor. You will get no push back from me in that argument. I have no issue with this o-line being up for this award.

Sidenote: As I stated before, wouldn’t be surprised at all if Mason Richman and Logan Jones are on NFL rosters next year.

I get them being considered for it. But with a couple of the tough games they've had I'd bet they won't win it. I'd have to know more about the other teams that are up for it and I don't.

The OL run blocking has definitely improved. I would give them a B+. Points deducted for the two first and goals vs Iowa State and last weeks UCLA game.
On the other hand, I think the pass blocking is below average.
