Worst NCAA Basketball commentator?

Walton is the BEST commentator in college basketball. Love that guy, the only one who doesn't treat the audience like morons.

I must be listening to a different guy named Bill Walton. The one I listen too, I can't understand and he talks about himself, UCLA, Coach Wooden and a few plays in the game.

Is there a reason he is buried in the West Coast, is it his choice?

Bill Walton had chronic back issues so he didn't travel much and even kind of quit calling games. He is better now but why travel when you dont have to. He can call west coast games and not mess around with travel and bad weather. Walton is crazy but hilarious. He loves life and doesnt seem to have an ego unlike many of the clowns calling games.

Part of the reason he is the most original analyst out there. He expands the vocabulary of analyzing bb games which I appreciate. Example :'' These fans are irate with that call''.

Walton is well-read and full of energy...... with an encyclopedic memory for detail. The other nite he talked about Chasson Randle, top of his HS class at Rock Island....and immediately waxed poetic about Iowa All-American Don Nelson of Rock Island.....I like him. He knows the history of the game. Worst: Vitale.

You think 'irate' is expanding someone's vocabulary?

It was Vitale when he started with ESPN years ago, and it's still, Vitale, today.
Guy has always been the worse commentator.
Vitale is tolerable in the studio.

Sorry, but love Bill Walton. I'm 43 years old, and love listening to his hippie, on air.

Billy Packer, in his time, never should have been lead analysis for See-BS.
Greg Anthony has been very good.

I like Musberger for probably the wrong reasons. When he was talking about how hot AJ McCarron's girlfriend was in the NC game 2 years ago, I thought it was hilarious and true. I like how he references gambling and Vegas all the time. I think his voice is recognizable in a good way and he has a personality with it. .

During the Insight Bowl against Oklahoma, Sean McDonough, made a gambling reference when OU scored that last touchdown.
I'm 43 and remember Jimmy "The Greek" talking about this taboo subject, and it's funny seeing Musberger, McDonough and others reference the line or skates around, yet talks about the line spread.

Al Michaels is also one of the best at hinting at the gambling lines.

"And that's a very important touchdown for some people watching out there"

Bill Walton makes some strange comments but I love listening to him. He seems very knowledgable with the inner-psychology of basketball. If you've ever read Bill Simmons' "Book of Basketball," his meeting/discussion with Walton is some of the best stuff in it.

Plus he was a elite all time college player and the best player on an NBA championship team. When he pumps a guy up or gets on a guy its more believable coming from someone who played at the level Walton did.

Name me the last college bb analyst who used it to describe the fans. He quotes Oscar Wilde, he is not Dakich.

I am enjoying the Bill Walton/Dave Pasch triple header this week....Stanford vs UWash on Wed. , Colorado vs UCLA last nite, and tonite with Arizona vs ASU.

Walton views bb as a joyous adventure, not drudgery. I embrace his free spirit approach to bb and life. Pasch reins him in just in time often. Goodness gracious, sakes alive....relax folks and let it flow!

Vitalis should just do autograph signings and stop the horrible analysis. The screaming Italiano 1980 clichés are over. I like Bill Walton and even though he over articulates which probably goes over most listeners heads he has excellent insights. Bill might be too smart for basketball analysis and should narrate National Geographic specials.

Speaking of Walton, how about this game he is doing right now? I guess this is the class of the PAC 12? Both teams have been pretty poor and the officiating has been astonishing at times, worse than Burr and Valentine for sure.

edit: I can't imagine how easy it must be for Sendek to recruit point guards. He can just tell them, "bring the ball up and just hang on to it. If you never pass, that's completely fine."

Bill Walton is the only commentator that I refuse to listen to, just will not do it again. There have been a few games I wanted to watch, but him calling the game turned it off...literally. I have not liked him...ever, I tried to listen before and just can't do it.

billy packer was such a DB...

All time nerd....

Mac Macausland

Agree on Mac Macausland. There was a guy named Shultz back in the seventies or eighties that did commentary that was hysterically bad. Al Mcguirre was never one of my favorites. These days Bobby knight turns me off. His arrogance just drips constantly out of his broadcasts.

Favorites:
Dakich
Walton
Musberger

Ironically these three are the worst for many.

Bill isn't too smart, he's too irrelevant to the game he's commenting about. Why not get Stephen Hawking to do a color commentary? "The lane is so cluttered right now... Its like the quantum foam at the subatomic level".... NOPE.
