Worst case bowl scenario for Iowa

Being forced to play one of the Group of 5 teams (Temple, Memphis, Houston or Navy....most likely) in one of the non-Rose Bowl New Year's 6 games. No offense to any of those teams, but after the start we've had to this year, it'd be a real letdown to go up against one of them in, say, the Peach Bowl.

After the season we have going, to play one of those teams would definitely be a let down. At least Memphis has Paxton Lynch.

We had the same thing after the 1991 season, and, basically, laid a turd against BYU.
Should've blown them out, and got a very fortunate late interception to tie the game.

If the Citrus is where we go, man that would be a bit of a bum as an 8-4 MN team went there last season and the Hawks are already far beyond that level of play.....

What's up with the "fans" to call in shows, and maybe elsewhere, who prefer the Hawks to go to the Rose bowl over the 2 playoff bowls? Times have changed, learn it, live it, love it...This doesn't happen (like ever) to have a shot at playing, or winning (it's possible) the nat'l Championship.

Not sure I completely agree with this.

In fact I would do the exact opposite.

If they go to the Playoffs I'm there.

If they go to the Rose I'm not.

Rose is not what it used to be.

No Hawkeyes fan should, in my opinion, have any difficulty whatsoever understanding why many would prefer a Rose. It's bred in at an early age of Hawkeye fandom and we have been starving since 1991.

The semifinal games this year are the orange and cottom bowls, pretty good sites. Cotton is in Jerry's house isnt it and the Orange bowl is in the newer stadium, I hope.

Gotta want the hawks to be 13-0 but first things first with Purdue.

I am not worked up about the CFP rankings as Okie and Okie St will face each other. Does Okie St and Baylor play this weekend? Go Baylor give Okie St a loss that then Okie St can beat Okie U.

I'd be VERY happy to get the Rose Bowl bid. If we get into one of the playoff bowls, that would be gravy. Anything less than the Rose this year would be highly disappointing. I believe the chance of us getting a 1 thru 4 slot is pretty remote. That said, the Rose would be S W E E T considering the expectations for this team coming into the Fall.

...it is clear to see then, these "trained" fans need to be retrained when the stakes are higher and your/our/their team is better than just a rose bowl (odd year out) competitor, and in the actual National Championship hunt.

If the fallback bowl for us is anything less than the playoffs (Cotton & Orange Bowls this year), then I understand fans preferring the Rose bid, over say the Fiesta Bowl (which "could" happen and is still a NewYears Day 6). But to hope we falter and go to the consolation prize bowl over the championship playoff bowls is bass ackward!

Nobody is hoping for a lesser bid than the Hawks deserve. But if it ends up being the Rose, that is awesome.

Yep, because no matter what we can say we are the undisputed Big Ten Champs. Unlike that 2002 season where we ended up as co-champs.

Not sure what you mean about "newer stadium'. The original Orange Bowl was torn down a number of years ago. There is another bowl game there but its played at the baseball stadium.
