Woodbury with 17---

He just gets beat up by the other teams. They try to create as much contact as possible to hopefully foul Woodbury out. He'll be pretty good without 2 or 3 guys hanging all over him. 17 points and 12 rebounds against the number 1 team in 4A is pretty good. If he was in 1A or 2A, you'd expect bigger numbers but better 4A teams have a lot of good athletes.

i dont know if he had any blocks but they were not shooting inside much until he fouled out then ankeny started driving right away

Ankeny has played suffocating defense at times this season, their twin starting guards are going to Truman State (DII) to play for former Drake player & Waukee coach Matt Woodley. Ankeny also has a nice big man, Ted Friedman, that is getting some looks. Valley just physically pounded Woodbury with Jok and Abrahamson, basically bracketing him anytime he tried to go block to block. If he did get the ball inside he was as automatic as it gets with two 6'7 kids hanging on him. Also was impressed with how strong Jok was and when he wants to he can take over a game, just doesn't always look like the effort is there.

I've heard that Jok often looked much better in AAU than he did in high school games. But even then, he just had patella repair done like 9 months ago, and that injury takes a full year to really heal. He's been rumored to only be at about 60-70% all season.

Glad to see sioux city win. That was a big road block game for woodbury to get a state championship. Also, They have that potential Hawkeye football walk on, Imming kid on their team, who just lost his father last month.

one other thing about Woodbury's playing ability, he went up against the #1` center in Nerlen Noel in the NBA top 100 camp in which Woodbury was awarded the MVP award.
and Noel is reported to be a 1 n done player, so i am not worried about the ability of Woodbury being ready to play

I went down and watched him again today. Great game, a big crowd that was very much into it the entire game. I thought it was a terrible decision by the Ankeny coach to hold the ball basically the last 5 minutes of the game to try and make East come out of their zone. Woodbury was on the bench with 4 fouls when they started holding the ball so pretty much the entire time he was on the bench they didn't try to score. And they were only up by 2 points at the time. Dumb.

Woody is a bruiser man, posts up hard and really gets after it. You guys are gonna like him. Ankeny played man the whole game and he had some really nice moves against the Freidman kid and some nice passes too(yes, and some turnovers). Freidman didn't do much and I think a lot of that had to do with Woodbury. I would imagine West will try to do something similar to Valley because they have no one that can guard him. Should be a good game.

This was an amazing aspect of the game to me. Woodbury goes to the bench with 4 fouls and Ankeny stalls 1 minute 30 seconds on the 1st possession while up 2 (and misses) and then stalls 2 minutes the next possession while tied (and missed again). With the 7 footer on the bench, they should have tried to increase their lead.

Woody had a good game. I wished he finished stronger at this level, but he does endure punishment that other players do not. There were a couple of times during the game that he was hit in obviously and did not get the call. He doesn't block shots because he basically just stands straight up and doesn't jump to block shots and/or get fouls. 2 of his fouls in this game were offensive while establishing position and the 5th foul was a cheap one. I also thought Woody's hands were pretty good and he made some nice passes for a big man.

SC East played well at the end after Woody fouled out and Ankeny played not to lose.
