Woodbury Guaranteed 4 year Start

I know this thread was started last year. I really am starting to wonder if it is true.
Gabe has been the better player for most of the year.
If Fran really did this, it makes me question his requiting techniques even more.

Yes promises must have been made. I do not mind Woody playing extended minutes if he is really playing well which he does on occasion but Gabe for long periods gives us so much more - rebounds, put backs, dunks/layups, runs the floor, energy.

Play Gabe 30, Woody 10 on avg.

It really does NOT matter who starts. Gabe played more minutes, tonite. However Woody had 8 rebounds, so it's not like Adam isn't earning his PT. What's really sad is that Gabe didn't start playing
Hoop early in life, so he could utilize his incredible athleticism and eliminate some of the simple oopsies he
makes each and every game. GO HAWKS! Go GABE !! Go Woody !!!

You tell your kid that in Little league baseball. This is BIG TEN Basketball. If you are playing better you deserve the nod.
Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe it's better to have someone with some energy come off the bench. Who has the most energy on Iowa's team?

Have often wondered that this be the case. Both Woody and Gabe have made great strides and improvements. To use the old Little League analogy again though, if we were back on the sandlot and pickin our teams, I would've picked Gabe before Adam, just cause has more athleticism.

There is a reason these threads usually pop up after a game against subpar competition. Gabe looks great when he can get by on just athleticism, when he's playing against quality teams with good big men, his defensive flaws become more evident.

Yep. Woody pretty much looks the same no matter the compitition. Gabe looks night and day different depending on compitition. I will say this though. Gabe is the main reason that we are beating our crappy opponents by double digits while teams better than us aren't. He single handily makes it hard for us to lose to bad teams.

I have never seen a game where Woodbury played better defense than Gabe, regardless of the level of competition.

Woody has played well at times this year, and at other times just looks lost. I really felt he would be further along at this stage in his career though. He is an upperclassman, has been through the wars in the B1G, has been in post season play (both the NIT and NCAA). He has shown flashes, but not the consistency.

Texas 29 min 10 pts, 8 reb, 2 assists, 2 stl.
Syracuse 28 min 12 pts, 5 reb, 2 assists, 1 stl
UNC 24 min 11 pts, 7 reb

Do this on a nightly basis, and I think he is then the player everyone thought we were getting being a top 50 kid coming out of HS. He should be a 10 PPG and 7 RPG guy at this stage in his career.

Well you either don't watch them play much or don't know much about basketball.

The only thing I have seen Woodbury do adequately on defense is defend one-on-one in the low post. He comes out to double-team at the three-point arc way too often for somebody with his foot speed, and thus leaves the hoop undefended or leaves a forward there to guard the hoop, which usually leaves a three-point shooter open in the corner. Gabe's help defense is also infinitely better than Woodbury's. When you see the other team make an easy layup, rewind the game and pay attention to what Woodbury was doing. Gabe isn't always in position either, but he has tremendous foot speed and leaping ability that helps him recover quickly. Please tell me what you think Woodbury does better than Gabe on defense, as I would be tickled to read your response.

Frankly, I can't believe the Woodbury-colored glasses some of the fans here have. The concept of Woodbury playing better defense than Gabe is so laughable to me that I can barely take the comment seriously. Defense is what Gabe does best, and if he was getting 28-30 minutes per game, he'd have NBA teams looking at him.

The important thing, Woody thinks he's good. All of the other players with the exception of Jok strap have no confidence.

Here is what Roy Williams did when asked how he felt recently about Woodbury choosing Iowa:
