Woodbury and Meyer

If Meyer commits do we not take Woodbury or do we take both?

Yes. If Fran doesn't sign a big this spring, that leaves you with Mel and White as the returning bigs after next season. You can probably throw McCabe in there too, but I'm not sure how many minutes he's capable of giving you down low. I'm also not sure if you want to go into a season relying on White/McCabe to account for 30-35 minutes per game on the block. I think they could both handle 8-10 minutes each, but not more than that.

If Fran doesn't get a big this spring, he NEEDS two next year.

I want both. Iowa needs a 6'10er and a 7-footer. It would shore up the Hawkeyes lack of front-court size for a longtime. Plus, they could both play at the same time if Iowa wanted to go with a big line-up having Woody a center and Meyer at power forward.

Why not Woodbury? A lot of people see players in high school games and are not impressed. Coaches do not care about high school games, They want to see them in summer games playing against players of equal abilities.

Exactly. Often in high school, opposing teams double and triple team big guys,or have strong, shorter guys who can get under big guys and push them around,so using high school games as a barometer on big men is sketchy.

Woodbury has established himself as a top 100 performer in the summer, when he is going against guys his own size, and caliber. I will trust that more than a high school game.

I think they will take both if they can. Woodbury is important for state of Iowa recruiting.

I wonder if Woodbury's anxious with the rumors of Meyer's potential commitment. I would think Fran would want to go with a juco big and a true frosh big next year.

The longer Fran is here the less he is going to be looking at jucos. I don't see jucos being a big part (if at all) of the 2012 class.

Meyer's recruitment will not impact Woodbury's recruitment.

I agree generally that Fran won't be seeking many jucos going forward but I would think he'd want to stagger the classes of the team's bigs. My two cents, that's all.

Take both and then add Thok, but redshirt him. This is if Iowa can't get a big in the Spring. The best way for Iowa to get better sooner is to get talented guards and develop big men around them. Basabe would be more effective with true bigs with him.

Bottom line is that if we get a shot at Woodbury, we take him, period. We need some depth and height, and Woodbury will only get better with Fran. We could have used a big today, with Brommer getting knocked out early.

Need is a legit C so Mel doesn't have to guard the other teams main post player. Mel is so much better at help defense when he can block shots rathar than trying to body someone up. Mel would be a lot better on both ends of the floor with a legit C.

From what has been said on thok he is getting better and better...I'd love for him to come to Iowa.

If I have the choice I will take the kid from Georgia playing major AAU ball. Over the Iowa kid everyday of the week.
