TOILETS
Yes, there actually is a restroom on I-35 sponsored by Iowa State University. With toilets and everything. No joke. Something is wrong with the plumbing in the Iowa State football program. It’s not going to be an easy fix like when my wife thinks I’m “Mr. Fix It†for fixing the toilet when all I really did is jiggle the handle. “Fixed it honey,†I say in my deepest masculine voice of accomplishment. Jiggling the handle ain’t gonna fix anything in Iowa State. An industrial sized plumber’s snake might fish out Gene Chizik coins, Gene Smith’s sincerity, and a Bowl Championship commemorative Insight Bowl keychain. Don’t flush because it’ll just add to the flash flooding here
Iowa State History
Iowa State has not won a championship of any kind since the Titanic sank in 1912. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were glued to the ISU game on satellite dish and tragically did not see the outcome of the game before the Titanic was torpedoed by a German U-boat to collect on an insurance policy and sank. An Ames woman passed away on December 11, 2013 at the age of a 110. Would she have been old enough to recollect that special day where the day belonged to the Cyclones in the Hawkeye state. They must have been partying like it was 1899 as
Psychology Of The Game
If you are one of those Hawkeye fans that give Iowa State no props in this series you have lost your mind...maybe your mind is under one of the overturned cars at Veisha. Since Hayden’s last year in 1998 Iowa is 7-9. I think that deserves a little Aretha Franklin’s R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Kirk Ferentz is 7-8 versus Iowa State and has lost at least one non-conference game 12 of his 15 years at Iowa. Hayden left the cupboard bare for Ferentz...as Kirk’s first year he was starting two male cheerleaders in the secondary if memory serves. Which would have been fine if Oz @princeagbeast3 were one of the two playing. Ferentz’s first 3 years at Iowa are not fair to take into account as he was still getting his players into the program. Taking those 3 games out of the equation, Ferentz is 7-5 against Iowa State. Whether you are an Iowa or an ISU fan we all hope injuries don’t affect the outcomes like they did in 2002 and 2005. Drew Tate’s concussion in the 2005 game was an absolute killer and all but sealed the game for the Cyclones
when that happened. That young man was a competitor and it was his down fall in the first half of that game. Injuries absolutely killed the Hawkeyes in the 2002 game when Brad Banks hurt his hand and fumbled, while Bob Sanders and Fred Russell did not play in the second half due to injuries. One could argue that once Ferentz got the program rolling and without freak injuries, he is 9-3 against the Clones. It’s been a close series record wise as well as total points scored, with Iowa scoring 339 to ISU’s 296 points since 1998.
Iowa State’s cardinal and gold uniforms don’t represent the Cyclones, more like the 1969-1970 Kansas City Chiefs when they play the Hawkeyes. We see a different Cyclone team against the Hawkeyes than we see the rest of the year. The Cyclones will be so pumped up that they will fly to the football so fast you might hear a sonic boom. There’s no doubt that this game was Dan McCarney’s Super Bowl. Paul Rhodes’ Super Bowl seems to be locking down the “number one†high school prospect in the state for consecutive years. Scoreboard Squawks! Hawkeyes better come ready to play!
Jamie Pollard
I was listening to the radio the other day and I heard Jamie Pollard bragging about their big win in soccer over the Hawkeyes. I love soccer and had no idea the game was even played. Pollard mentioned that if things go right for the Cyclones another billboard may be in his plans. He even mentioned flying an airplane over Kinnick...yeah he was feeling it after that big soccer win. When Pollard hired a Cyclone hero in Fred Hoiberg, I think I called him the Kobayashi of Vodka. That hire is going absolutely agnificently. If Paul Rhodes doesn’t get it done for football, does he bring in a legend for football? Say, Troy Davis, who would also bring the fan base together.
The Series
Enjoy every moment of this series because we are not sure just how long it will continue. The B10 may have something to say about it and I’m not sure how much Iowa has to gain by playing ISU. I hear Cyclone fans say they have nothing to gain by playing UNI. I’m all for playing ISU but it needs to be played at Kinnick in front of 70,000 plus fans, or money is just being flushed down the toilet... sponsored by Iowa State University. Here’s to a little “Tears Of A (Cy)Clown†being played after a big Hawkeye win.
