With no buyout, is Kirk Ferentz coach today?

He's not in trouble at all, he's not on the hotseat at all. Barta might be on the hotseat, but Ferentz isn't. Kirk Ferentz will be at Iowa until he decides he doesn't want to be, and then, his son will take over.

Count me in the camp that thinks this might be KF's last year. If we finish below .500 again, which is a near certainty when looking at the schedule and considering the available talent on hand (not to mention Greg Freaking Davis), it will be extremely difficult to sell another year to the fanbase when they go to ask for increased donations and raised ticket prices during the re-seating. I think there will be some kind of structured/reduced buyout that everyone agrees to be in the best interest of the program. If he can scratch and claw his way to 6-6 and some crappy 4th tier bowl game then he will likely get another shot at a make or break season in 2014.

Im glad KF is our coach. We have one of very few Athletic Depts. in the nation that is self supporting. Which is why he has the contract he has. This is the most important thing to the U I. In case no noticed most states in the US are on their way to going broke. There wont be much budget for athletic dept. Thats what the conference restructuring is all about. The big schools are tired of sharing the money with the smaller schools. Plus KF runs a good program and his kids graduate. You may not care about that but some Iowa people do. He has taken us to how many Out Back, Capital One and Alamo Bowls. Not to mention two BCS Bowls. He did all this at a place that in my life time was once considered a coaching grave yard. Besides I remeber Fran Latuber

Dave do you really want Iowa to be like a SEC program ?

No, but the comment before we if he was in the SEC he would be fired after the '12 season, my point was he would be fired before that season even started.

I want KF to success again, I just don't think he will. I want to be wrong but I can't change how I feel.

You really believe that Barta or whoever replaces him if he gets canned will allow Brian to take over?

After two 7-5 regular seasons, and then a 4-8 campaign, is there anyone that really thinks Kirk would be fired?

Would his seat be warm? Yes. Extremely. I still believe he'd be the coach, and I also believe he deserves it. Another 4-8 year or worse? Then he get's the boot. (in this scenario)

Agreed.

With no golden contract he'd still be the coach. For one main reason..................

A) The majority of Hawk fans still think he's the coach for Iowa.

The reasons why they do make my head hurt and I'm not gonna list them.

Don't know if you are joking or not, but I do believe that he's here till he wants to go. Why? Because hawk fans put up with him. Both gutless and stupid at the same time. Like that reporter that apologized to ferentz after a press conference last year. Ferentz is used to everybody that he deals with treating him that way. Makes me sick.

To that reporter, if he lurks on here, quit being such a puss.

I'll heard was blah blah blah shut up and like being 7-5 on average with routine losses to jNW and Moo U. You are incredibly stupid if you believe the seats wouldn't be packed with a coach making 300k a year that goes 7-5 on average. You equate full seats to 3.8 million a year, that is complete BS.

Be realistic now, what do you think Iowa can average, win wise in a season?

Regardless of coaching salary, that has nothing to do with it. Just strictly wins, what do you think is achievable and please explain who said average would be obtained.

Remember be realistic!

of course

to myopic tavernhokks who are afraid hang their cheeze out in the wind, kurt is teh ballz and can do no wrong
to people liek this, comfort means more than winning big; 7-5 is comfy and "safe"

I'm looking your way, "doclee" and "deanvogs".

So what is your action plan?

I mean this will all seriousness. If we would just stop losing on a consistent basis to Northwestern, Iowa State, etc. It is the 1 loss we seem to suffer every year from in game mismanagement on the part of KF. The one that ruins my weekend around 2:30 CST every fall. I believe with our preseason schedule, this team should go no less than 8-4 every year. C'mon that is going .500 in the Big 10. I am not asking to go .500 playing against SEC level talent here. Every year aside from some outliers, Minnesota, Iowa St. Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana and Illinois we should win 5 out of 6 against these level of teams.

I hate losing to NW, just a little more than ISU. I hate losing to ISU too but NW drives me nuts.

I think 8-4 is realistic, on average. That is having some 6-6 and 10-2 or 7-5 and 9-3 mixed in there.

To answer the original question, in this day and age he would not be. In Fry's day, goodwill went a lot further than today when it is win now or you are out. In my mind KF lost all his goodwill when Iowa absolutely quit in 2010. Follow that up with 2011 and 4-8 last year and he would and should be out, but for his asinine contract. Barta too for that matter.
