With FSU and Clemson Joining the Big 12...

Love the bolded section. Does anyone other than delusional Clowns see this as a realistic possibility?

It is not impossible to think Iowa State can or should overcome Iowa as the primary Athletic and Academic institution in state...ISU already graduates more Iowans, being aligned with the second best football conference in the new era of Only Money Matters, everyone else can play on their own Cable Stations that no one will even know where to find is sea change for the prospects of Iowa State. Sure the Big 10 will always be in the conversation, but in name only. The elite athletic talent in this country resides in the South. Geographically, Iowa State is at a a big disadvantage to their southern counterparts - BUT NOT TO THE BIG 10. If the Big 12 is successful being the SEC's equal (or closest competition) in the coming decade, Iowa State being in the Big 12 will increase its profile, it will be on TV on Major Networks, it will compete for the best in state talent and most importantly attract kids that in the past may have been content to stay in the South in a lessor conference or go to what is currently a "higher profile" Northern School. No More. We may never be the elite in our conference year over year, but I have a good feeling we will be every bit of Iowa's equal and in time the IOWA State school. There is very little difference in the talent in the two programs now, with more money and more time, well - let it be so."

Iowa is and always will be a Hawkeye State. Iowa State will never get the top recruits from the south to come here, they will always get the second or third tier. Adding additional southern schools to the conference only makes it tougher for Iowa State to get a bowl bid.

Interesting that these fantasies always involve someone else...making them great.

And what the hell does "we graduate more people from Iowa" have to do with it?" UMass graduates more kids from Massachusetts, but they'll never be Harvard.

Clone dreams

What a fantasy post! Too bad Iowa State can't graduate its athletes. They have a dismal record so maybe some of those southern boys will come to a school that doesn't bother with academics.

Not anytime soon but with more graduates from Iowa State living in Iowa and more kids from Iowa going to Iowa State, it's not unlikely that in 20 years Iowa State shares a similiar fanbase than Iowa. Its a generational thing so it may take longer than 20 years. I'm not really sure.

In the end, who cares? ISU and Iowa each have solid fan bases

I am still hung up on the part where Clemson and FSU joining the B12 have anything to with it to begin with.

Do we have to read every thread on cyclonefanatic and post about how delusional they are? Stop visiting their site if you got a problem with it.

Iowa State has always graduated more kids from Iowa than U of I, this has not just started to happen over night. I know of plenty of kids that go to Iowa State that are Hawkeye fans, they may root for the Cyclones while they are at school but once they get back out into the real world they are back to being Hawkeye fans even though their degree says Iowa State.

But the real difference is all the kids that do not go to college or go to small schools in the state, the vast majority of them are Hawkeye fans. They may root for Wartburg, Coe, or wherever they go to college but at the end of the day they still root for Iowa over Iowa State. It has always been this way and it will always be this way.

I will say this, its always been 2 to 1 Iowa to ISU fans in Iowa, but that ratio is shrinking every year. I grew up in Cedar Rapids and a large amount of ISU fans move there every year. I would say it was 60/40 Iowa to ISU in my graduating class, but that number continues to decrease. My whole family who once was surrounded by Iowa fans now has ISU fans all around them. There is a shift, a slow but steady one.

The ratio always has been and still is more than 2 to 1.
It is shrinking and you have to look no further than the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids/Quad Cities area. Growing up I was hard pressed to find anything ISU around the area, now ISU is all over the place. ISU has always been #1 in central Iowa, but now where once was 60/40 in eastern Iowa, that is now shrinking.

I dont think its necessarily shrinking a ton,ISU fans are just becoming more confident now that things have been turning around a bit. The excitement of the programs has made their flags fly.

This is not true……read the post above you. I went to ISU and remained an Iowa fan. The majority of all the small school kids and UNI’s kids are predominantly Iowa fans. This is something ISU fans have told themselves for years…..come out to Chicago land. You see Iowa apparel all over the place. Iowa is not fading into obscurity as you guys have so desperately hoped….

Talk to the old timers….Iowa was terrible and I mean epically bad for close to 20 years. They had several years when they were considered one of the 10 to 15 worst teams in the country and that ironically coincided with ISU’s best overall era and yet Iowa still packed their stadium and ISU did not!

You guys think its a success thing, but it is way more than that.

I dont disagree at all, but the OP in the CF thread is right. ISU is seeing a larger enrollment and higher graduation rate, so its making an impact. I still am shocked when I go home and its like I have never left West Des Moines, I don't feel like I am walking into Hawk country as much as I used to.

So, it went from a 2:1 ratio at one point to never being better than 3:2? You can't even keep your own fabricated statistics from ballooning.

I won't contest the fact that the ration has probably shifted some in Iowa, but conversely we also carry the bulk of interest outside of Iowa by a large margin.

I'll wait until 2032 when the fan base of each school are dead even in Iowa to post my eating of crow. Heck, at this rate it's more likely to be 2017.

This is just flat out false in every way.

I will say this too, some of my "tweener" friends growing up are now, for the first time, ISU season ticket holders for the simple reason that they can relate and like Rhoads and Hoiberg more than McCaffery and Ferentz. I think ISU's coaches may relate better to the younger generation.

The bolded part is so far off its ridiculous. You really think that 40% of the people that give a rip about college sports in eastern Iowa favor ISU over the Hawks?

That is just dumb.
