Wisky ain't going away any time soon....

In my mind, as I was watching that shit show unfold Saturday, I thought to myself, "Well, other than Jonathan Taylor, most of those guys should be gone after this year, so that should bode well for us." Based on the way they were playing, I assumed most of those guys were seniors.

Then I go and look at their two deep and find out they are just as young as we are!

For example, our OL goes Freshman, Junior, Junior, Senior, Freshman. Theirs goes Sophomore, Junior, Freshman, Junior, Sophomore. And their center, who was kicking our ass up and down the field all day on those pulls he did around the tackle....yep, he's a freshman. So how is it that their freshman OL kicks our ass, but ours are "young"?

Next year, on defense, they return their NT (most important position in a 3-4), 3 of their 4 LBs (plus Cichy, who's currently injured), and their leading tackler at S (Dixon). Not to mention, their entire OL and Taylor at RB.

So then my question is.....if us and Wisky essentially get the same level of recruits, at least according the the rating services, and if our starters are roughly equal in age, at least as far as position groups go, then why are we so far behind, developmentally, than they are? I understand the "haters" answer will be "Well, because Ferments (or some other lame ass nickname) is our coach!"....but seriously....what is it that they are doing day in and day out, week in and week out, over the summer, in the spring, etc that makes them so much more prepared and polished on a consistent basis than we are?
But freshman lineman mean 6-6 and an occasional worst offensive output in 20+ years. How could this be? We make the dumbest excuses for failure don't we?

1977-1996
Not a single Badger victory.
Iowa also dominated the Clones and Wildcats during that same period.
IIRC KF has a pathetic record against all 3 programs.
So yeah, it's on Kirk.

The Hawks didn't play the Badgers in 1993 or 1994. In 1993 the Badgers went to the Rose Bowl and in 1994 they finished 3rd in the conference. In both years the Hawks finished below .500 in the Big 10. I'm also unsure what effect Kirk Ferentz had on the performance of the 1997 or 1998 version of the Hawkeyes against the Badgers.

One word: gameplan.

Wisconsin, like most modern cfb teams, has a gameplan every week. "Here's how we're gonna attack this week's opponent, to best take advantage of what we do vs what they do."

I think it's pretty clear Iowa doesn't gameplan each opponent. What we do is the same week to week. (Okay maybe they stole a plan from Oklahoma last week which said to take advantage of OSU's linebackers in coverage)

The most frustrating thing against Wisconsin lately is we know Wisconsin will be aggressive on D- any 3-4 defense has to be. But the offensive "braintrust" does nothing to take advantage of that.

I really wish he would retire and let a whole new coaching staff and philosophy come into Iowa City. I am so ready for that to happen.

Wisky has had big o-lineman for last 20 years or so. Now they are big and athletic those big jokers be moving. On those pulls and traps they are looking to destroy people.

I have seen bits and pieces of the majority of Wisconsin’s games this year and will admit I have not been paying attention. I didn’t realize how big they were until the Iowa game. They looked like they averaged about 6’6 320 lbs. easily.
