After re-watching a few games from this season, I am convinced that wiseman is not a running back. His career stats are almost all from eating up crappy competition. His largest gaines come on runs that you could drive a vehicle through. Many of his big gainers should be touchdowns with a real RB. Even his yards after contact have come from severely subpar competition. I would say ee should plug him in at fullback and split the carries between the next 3 rb's, but plewa and cox are better fullbacks than wiseman.
 
Love the Hebrew hammer but i don't think it is a stretch to say he wouldn't start at tailback at a lot of other schools. Like I said though. Like him a lot, plays very hard, does what he is asked to do , team player, hard to fault him personally
 
I agree he should not be a RB on a B1G team. He simply does not have the full skill set to make him a true #1 back.

OK... No.

We can debate all we want about whether or not Weisman is a good back in Iowa's system, but lets not start painting false impressions with a wide brush.

The Air Force Academy just wasn't for him. He didn't wash out, or get thrown out by any means. He just decided it wasn't for him. To say he "couldn't hack it" is an unnecessary insult to a kid who has worked his butt off to help this Iowa team.

It's fine to constructively criticize, but at least show him some respect.
 
I'm not convinced he's healthy. He just doesn't seem like the same back and I know part of it is competition but we've also stopped using him.

He averaged more than 5 YPC against Ohio State and more than 4 YPC against NW. Yet his carries were significanlty down in comparison to earlier in the year.

Even if healthy, I don't think he is ideal for a starting Big 10 RB because he lacks the big threat play but I do think he is the best we have and that shows part of the talent problem currently at Iowa.
 
I opened this thread thinking it was an early Christmas reference. Personally, I'm for the Wiseman who brings the gold. I have no use for frankenscense or myrhh.

Wow. Not sure where to go with this.
 
The real question is why hasn't JC had some carries? He comes in and it is instant offense. Granted he probably played because the backup QB had to play....But why not give them a series or two for a change of pace. Especially in the windy games where the backup has a cannon for an arm. The deep ball looked pretty good into the wind.

On canzeri's long run, where he cut back and ran for 50, Weisman would have trucked the guy and fell forward for 3 more yards. Than half the people on here would have thought he was awesome for all the yards after contact.

Even his zings after comebacks have come off severely subpar competition. I would say ee should plug him in at wrestling board and split the load between the next 3 posters, but pin2win and vintagehawkeye are better poasters than 22hokeeys.
 
When they run him around the edge he looks like a 72 Cadillac with bald tires around a sharp curve.

I never said anything about him being kicked out, and quite frankly I couldn't care less about his ability as a running back. "It wasn't for him" to me means he couldn't hack it. He made a commitment to serve and backed out; in that regards what respect does he deserve from me?

I think most every Iowa fan would be appreciative of Mark Weisman. I am. But he's not a Big Ten caliber running back, or at least not in Iowa's outside zone scheme. I've been writing that for the last two or three weeks. The outside zones are bad for his skill set...which is bad news considering how much Iowa loves the outside zone. So that's a coaching fail.
 
Do you guys think he's healthy? I still see no reason for his touches to get cut down so severely if not. He's still our best back by far, imo.
