Wiscy showing something every body on here needs to see

In 2010 I was at the Wiscy game when we were winning until we didn't ever think BB would call for a fake punt. They won the game and we don't need to rehash all that went wrong at the end. But ever since that game Wisconsin has gone in an upward direction and we have gone in the other. Seem like we have never recovered from that one.

True! One of KF's finer coaching moments.

Worst thread in the history of worst herby threads.

There is zero chance of Iowa under Kurt Ferentz looking remotely like Wisky last night. None whatsoever.

Worst thread in the history of worst herby threads.

Worst? It had everything that an excellent Herby thread has, except he used "STAR" instead of *, which is a disturbing development. On the herby scale of postiness, I give it a 78,4,,**

Player development, and player retention, is at least as important as the number of stars somebody gives a teenager. Play-calling is where games are won or lost. Look at what Kansas State is doing.

i was impressed that Wisky kept running misdirection as well as power runs. the nebby D had no idea what was coming. unlike when they played Iowa.

Certainly, this is a memorable moment in Herby's posting career. All the classic ramblings and presentation, and all the high school stats. He has the Ferentz loyalty going and Hawkeye stats from years ago.

We could have twenty 4 STAR ** recruits each year, but still be a below average team if the coaching style, coaching decisions, and conservative, ineffective offense knocks these players down to 1 or 2 STAR college players.

the only thing I am inferring/ implying is Iowa does not need gimmicks to win. and just meant that Iowa was hindered by a OL and RB group that was riddled with injuries
when the OL was healthy and at its best they beat MSU, not to mention Weisman had over 800 yards rushing and over a 100 yards receiving in just "6" Games, that's a total of over 900 total yards, which breaks down to a 150 yard per game effort.
in that same MSU game Weisman got hurt, then in the PSU game 2 of Iowa's best OL went down to injury for the year. after that game it became a revolving door at both the RB and OL position.
again at the beginning of the season there were 3 brand new starters on the OL, and the RB spot was a big question mark
95% of the Posters were predicting anywhere from 5-7 at WORST to 7-5 at best, because of all the 1st time starters and all the coaching changes.
but as the season progressed you could have swore by the way people were going nuts after every loss, that they had predicted a BT Title and NT

Post like this are designed to do nothing but pick fights and we keep falling for his crap.

Silver Lining: He's never given up 63 to Wisky either...:D

The thought that has crept into my mind several times since watching the BIG championship game, is that since 2000 it is very rare for any KF-coached Iowa team to get dismantled the way Nebby has been on TWO different occasions this year (OSU, Wisconsin). Nebby is 10-3 with a pretty decent team.

This year Iowa is 4-8 and was 21 points from finishing 9-3. Sure the PSU and Meatchicken games could have turned out like what we saw last night, but on the whole KF teams never get dismantled and blown out of the stadium like Nebraska has experienced TWICE this season.

It's one thing to lose a game by 1-3 scores. Its another thing to lose a game by 5 or more.

First of all, I agree that Wisconsin is a great model for what Iowa fans should hope for. Sucks to say that about a rival, but whatever, it's true.

The way that they build their roster and control football games with their offensive approach is awesome and so oldschool. What I mean by that is, Iowa can easily have a roster that talented in the near future if they wanted to. Iowa can never have an Alabama or Florida St roster, it's not possible.

Wisconsin is not that 'talented' of a team, but they have great OL, really good RBs and are solid everywhere else. You could also say their DL is great, creating a LOS trend. In all honesty, I think Wisconsin (under Beilema) modeled themselves after Iowa in some of the successful/earlier Ferentz years.

Second, let's not oversimplify what wisconsin does. It's easy to say that Wisconsin's offense is basic compared to others, oregon for example. But, as one commentator pointed out last night, they have the most sophisticated run game in the country.

And more importantly, they use gimmicks. I saw a WR pass back to the QB near the goal line. And I bet they had 200 ish yards on end-around reverses or jet motion sweeps. Not to say that those are gimmick plays, but they sort of are. When you can run the ball iso or with a zone blocking concept every time and cannot be stopped, the reverses look gimmicky IMO.

Overall, they're really good and it's easy to be jealous. I don't think Iowa can ever have the offensive output the have. But that's because we have a bad OC, and if a good OC were to come in with a Wisconsin style, we'd see. Second of all, I think the Iowa football defense (defensive potential) is greater than that of Wisconsin. Their defense isn't that good. If anything, their offense controls the clock/ball and makes the D look better. Iowa has had better Ds that Wisconsin (under Norm) and can have them in the future.

Well, I think the particular envy at this point is for Wisconsin, not Nebraska. Also, our PSU and Michigan games this year were about equivalent to this; 42-10 and 38-0 through three quarters, respectively. Hell, Michigan's drive chart in the first three quarters was (honestly and literally): TD, TD, TD, TD, TD, TD. No joke. Also, Northwestern ripped us. Don't let that score fool you. If they don't mess up royally (and unforced) around our goal line twice, that game is 42-3 going to the fourth.

...and let me add to my above post that Hoke and BOB took the foot off the pedal. What result this year if we face teh Biels???

Bottom line is Wisconsin gets the max out of their kids. They run schemes that will get the best out of their talent. They have a kid like Melvin Gordon behind ball and they find a way for him to get on the field and make a great impact. At Iowa, he'd be good for a few stretch plays to give the starter a rest if Iowa had a guy like ball starting. Thats just one example. They have imagination and don't try and jam a square peg into a round hole, that's the difference. Bottom line they're a much better coached football team than Iowa.

its amazing what a healthy OL and a solid group of RB's can do.
they don't use gimmick plays nor do they use a spread offense, and they use a PP for a QB
3:35 left in the 3rd Quarter 550 total yards of which 449 are on the ground

Also, a thought just struck me regarding your point here.

Iowa had a terrific offensive line in 2008. They had Shonn Greene and Jewel Hampton in the backfield. They had arguably the best defense since 1981. They had a good tight end and solid receivers, and a serviceable quarterback to get them the ball.

Yet they never put up anything like the numbers Wisconsin has, and did again last night. So, Ferentz's most ardent defender, what gives?
