Wisconsin loss good or bad....

So Sparty beat Wisconsin today at their place. Does Wisconsin take this loss out on Hawks on Senior Day? Does another loss demoralize them? Does this make it harder/easier for Hawks next week or does it matter?

That's good news that it's not their senior day because right now that's all they have to play for.

We've been very lucky to play teams in horrible slumps the past couple games and that will continue now with Wisconsin. Indiana had lost 6 of 7, Maryland had lost 4 of 6, and now Wisconsin has lost 4 of 5 with their only win being against Maryland. Folks on here suddenly think Iowa is playing great and in reality we are 2-3 in the last five games with a loss at home to Illinois and a comeback OT win vs Indiana. That would kill any bubble talk if we had even been on the bubble. I never remember the B10 being this bad, they may have one team in the top 25 tomorrow in Purdue and they lost yesterday also! To think a year ago FIVE different B10 teams spent time in the top 10 and Wisconsin made the sweet sixteen on top of that. Crazy how quickly that changed.

Maryland lost the game before Iowa. No idea if/how it compares, but they certainly didn't look like a team that was motivated by a loss.

The Big Ten is probably a little weaker than most years, but that is the same this year for all the power 5 conferences. The same people who tell us how bad the BT is are the same one who told us last year the PAC 12 was such an elite conference (and although they got 4 teams to the Final Four[alternative fact]). Iowa is a fun exciting team probably close to the bubble. A win over Wisconsin and Penn St. puts them in the conversation for sure. Only Louisville and Texas Southern have current winning streaks longer than 5 games. So parity is everywhere and our medium is just as good as anyones.

Looks like Wisconsin plays Minnesota after us - they could go into the Big Ten Tournament in a tailspin. I watched most of their game today and it really wasn't close. Michigan State was very motivated and outplayed them. Doesn't seem like they have the killer instinct they usually have.

With our luck Whiskey probably comes out on fire. Their loss definitely hurts our potential RPI jump if we somehow beat them though. It is looking more and more like we will need to run the B1G tourney table.

Wisconsin has now lost 4 out of 5. They finish at home against MN so we aren't playing them on Senior Day. I believe they returned all 5 starters so I think it is possible they had little room to improve while most teams n the Big 10 are young and have improved as the season progressed. Also, Bo's disciplines, influence on the program, etc. will erode more and more over time. Is the current coach good or did he inherit some guys that Bo developed? This is a fair question IMO.

I'm missing your point here...seems contradictory. Iowa had lost 3 in a row before winning the last 2. So shouldn't IN have benefited from playing a team that had lost 3 in a row? Shouldn't MD have benefited from playing a team that had lost 3 out of 4? MD was at home and still in contention for the conference championship.

We are clearly playing better IMO...especially on defense. And we aren't "Jok dependent" in order to win a game. I'm not predicting a win at WI but it's far from unrealistic. We could win our last 2 and we could win the BTT. I think the 10 teams that don't play on Wednesday could all win the BTT.

I think this coach was handpicked by Bo. He had a hand in developing the players they have. Remains to be seen if he can get the same performances out of them.

People think that Wisconsin Basketball is a good program. Fact is, that had a hall of fame coach and now he's gone. They lose a lot this year and I have a feeling there is no Frank Kaminski on the bench this time.

I agree...just wondering if we're starting to see signs. In reality it is unrealistic to think he will be as good as Bo. I didn't like Bo but he could coach...not sure WI will ever have a better basketball coach.

Koenig, Hayes and Showalter are all seniors. My prediction is that this year's Iowa team...which lost a ton...has a better conference record that next year's WI team.

Greg Gard is not inspiring confidence in me right now. I'm sure it isn't as bad as it looks, but they are losing there whole staring line up in 2 years and they haven't shown any depth in the ranks this season. Whiskey could be ready to come off of that high horse.

very lucky? Meh. Iowa was in the (quote)typical late-season Fran swoon (unquote) when playing these teams. It's college basketball. It ebbs. It flows. Over a season. Over a series of games. During a game.

Hawks have played some good ball for the last 35 minutes of Indiana and 40 minutes at Maryland. Indiana was a gut check and Maryland was unbelievable shooting. That can carry a team for a few games.

It doesn't matter against who you get your confidence. Only that you get it.

If Iowa shoots similar in Madison like they did in Maryland, Wisconsin's state of mind from their recent losses won't matter.

Just put Iowa's shooting stats in front of them. Show them they're still playing for regular championship. That should give them some motivation.

I will be at the game at the Kohl Center. Good friend Rick has two tickets right underneath the basket. SO, we had better upset those damned Badgers! Early on, I never thought we would have a chance to win this one, but now I have my hopes up. Yeah, I know. It would really be a stretch to get two road games in a row against teams at the top end of the BT, but hey, we are going play the game. I thought we played our best game of the year, buzzer to buzzer, against Maryland. Took the crowd out of the game. Neutralized their guards with the 2/3 zone...great move by Fran and his staff. Calhoun was really impressed with Iowa's young team. Said they would make a lot of noise in the BT down the road. Listed some very solid specifics as to why he like the team so well. Did a GREAT job interviewing and coaching Jordon in the post game. Not hard to see that he still loves the game and can relate to young players. I am absolutely thrilled to have had season tickets this year (again)...it was a great ride!

Like I said in another thread, Iowa 68-61.....the zone, the pressure outside limits any guard penetration, we limit our mistakes, take Happ out foul trouble, whatever it takes. Our kids are loose, our kids are confident, our kids just won in Maryland....I think I'll drink another Elliot Ness Amber Lager and sir back and look forward to Thursday night .....go gawks....
