Wisconsin just did EXACTLY what Iowa should have last week

Maryland is an average team. Last week it had a little more kick on its homecoming game and of course, we did nothing to deserve to win the game. Maryland might win 1 or 2 more games... One of those being Rutgers. Seeing Maryland today adds to the frustration and confusion about this Iowa team. Pitt, Ball State, UNI, ISU, now Maryland... These are not very good teams but we make them appear otherwise.

Actually they did something. Something very wrong. I'm still a little baffled why we go away from things that are working.

Me too. This was the one game where we should have absolutely pounded MD with Weisman/Canzeri/anyone who can run the football. Their interior run D is bad.

But wisky will keep the pedal to the metal and if things go right this could be a 50-30 wisky win.

Iowa does not know how to play 60 minutes, how to keep finding what is working and exploit it and then exploit counter plays off of what is working.

I think the players do and would love to do it. Kf seems to think any scoring distance of over a touchdown is just showing off.

I really feel like this is why Iowa can't play a full 60 minutes when they need to...the second we get a 2 score lead, we shut things down. How many times has Iowa gone out and played a full 60 minute stomp on offense? I honestly don't know...

Few under Ferentz, the 55-0 blitz at Minny, the big 2002 win at Mich.

but hayden did it all the time, hayden knew you dont lose close games if you dont have a close score, he also knew it is hard for the other team to catch up if you not only move the ball but keep scoring.

You guys all know how hayden would just sh@t stomp Illinois, Minny, ISU and NW and others when he can, and Texas in the bowl game.

I really think KF gets embarrassed if he wins too big. He is like the nice big brother type in the neighborhood who lets the younger guys get a bone once in awhile by having a big play and getting a score, but then ooops the young buck turns around and scores again and beats you.

Some coaching adjustments in Maryland and ISU games (like doing what works and staying with it), Iowa is unbeaten right now. Sickening.

Let me ask you this… Has Wisconsin turned the ball over after getting a drive going? Have they fumbled at midfield? Has their special-teams turned it over after the defense forced a 3 & out?

I, like many of you, wish we would have pounded the rock a lot more last weekend. But let's be honest with ourselves, we had just as many mistakes that killed our chances as it was poor playcalling by GDGD.

It fits in here enough that I don't need to create a new thread about it.. But wow, MD is getting crushed and they for all intents and purposes crushed us.. Hope we don't lose the last two home games by a lot..

as for running up the score to not lose close games.. I agree. Our "strength" if there is one on our defense is the secondary. If we put teams in a "need to pass" situation then we COULD rely on our D to close out games.

They're not the same with thier new QB. THey'll destroy iowa.

Stave was their QB last year and got replaced by McEvoy this year for some reason. Stave apparently had the equivalent of the yips. McEvoy hasn't been close to as good as Stave was last year. It looks like they're running a two QB system now.

Wisconsin has run the ball 65% of the plays while we only ran the ball 35% of the plays with a QB that checkdowns every down. I think that's a big difference (along with Wiscy's D).

All I hope is we can win next week and look decent for 4 quarters. Illinois is now not a guaranteed win. Wisky looks like they are playing very well. I still say Abdullah is everything for nebby.

We play well, 7-8 wins is very possible....play and coach like last week...5-7 is very possible.

Ugh.

52-7 Wiscy. 65% rushing plays for Wiscy against the BIG's 13th ranked rush D. It's not the rocket science derp Davis tries to make it.

Remember Kirk's comment after the Indiana game about playing CJ? He said they planned for every scenario except what happened (blowout by Iowa). That clearly implies he not only does not expect to ever have a big lead....but has no intention of trying to build one.
