Wisconsin could be 2-3 in first 5 games

There is a better chance we start out 2-3 than Wisconsin.

If Iowa starts 2-3 then I will not be visiting these forums for a while. This place will be ugly. Iowa cannot afford to lose games they should win next season. Anything less than a 5-0 start is unacceptable.

Bucky will be at least 4-1, I like UNI but no way will they beat the Badgers. It will be fun to see Beavers and Badgers going at it.

Questions-
What year(s) can we afford to lose games we shouldn't?
If you like Badger on Beaver action, how do you feel about Beaver on Beaver action, like Buena Vista and Oregon State?

If I were you I would start preparing all of my fire KF rhetoric ahead of time.

No way, I would just take a vacation from these forums. I like KF but no way could I defend a 2-3 start with that schedule.

Ronco, I know where you are going with that but in years past Iowa had enough talent on the field to win a few they shouldn't have. This fall I just don't see it, there is not a lot of talent in the upper classmen and there is going to be a bunch of sophomores and freshman in the 2 deeps. They are going to have to come out and play each game next fall at 100% effort and take no game for granted. Iowa has go to take care of those first 5 games.

But Beavers vs Beavers sounds fun.

Can you defend 4-1?

Not this year. The Hawks dont play a true road game until the 6th game of the year. If the ISU game was in Ames I could defend 4-1 but not with ISU, UNI, Central Michigan and the Gophers all coming to Kinnick and playing NIU at Soldier.

5-0 should be expected this year.

No, if Iowa is going to get into a bowl game they have got to start the season 5-0. The rest of the schedule is going to be difficult. Iowa cannot afford to lose to Iowa State or Minnesota at home this year...any of the first 5 games.

After that they get a bye week and this face this schedule:

@Michigan State
Penn State
@Northwestern
@Indiana
Purdue
@Michigan
Nebraska

The only game in the remaining schedule you can say they should win for sure is against Purdue. Long gone are the days you could put Northwestern down as a win and Indiana plays Iowa tough. Perhaps Pedo, I mean Penn, State is a sure win.

I wouldn't count on that. O'Brien is modernizing their training methods. I've seen PSU fans complain before that they always had more talent than Iowa, but that we had better training and development. O'Brien might get them up to par on that.

They get done building that shrine for Paterno yet?

You are correct, a 5-0 start is crucial. I think we can win 3 of those last 7 games, so that would put us at a respectable 8-4 for the amount of youth we have on both sides of the ball. I would be happy with 8-4 this season.

I also think we can surprise some people this year. The D-Line is young, but pretty talented. We also have an incredibly talented back 7, and if PP brings more pressure than Norm did, we can use that to our advantage. My only concern is teams gashing us up the middle, especially if Carl Davis doesn't get going, because our LB's are pretty small.

I hope you are right herky, going 3-4 in the last 7 would be nice. That is one tough 4 game stretch after the bye week with 3 of the 4 being on the road.

I've got news for you. We're likely not going 5-0.

DON'T DO THIS TO ME!!!!!

It is not even football season yet and I already have that sick feeling. You know that one we all had after the Minnesota game and spend the rest of the day in a daze trying to justify what happened.

Are there god pleasing sacrifices we can make to ensure Iowa starts off the season 5-0?

I am not trying to be unreasonable. It's just that it's been done only once in the KF era. There are other years we should have done it with better teams that this one. I agree, I think we have the best schedule setup for a starting 5 games probably ever, but even with the deck stacked favorably when you consider that our D is going to be questionable it's just a tall order to fill.

I agree 2-3 is pretty unacceptable, so that's more where I was going with the 4-1 question. I don't think it's unreasonable to see a loss in the first five games.

Which one they going to lose? NIU, ISU, UNI, CMU, or Minn? I will make sure I am no where near my TV to ensure it will not get broke.

I understand what you are saying, Iowa is known for screwing up at least 1 game a year to someone they should beat easily. But next year has got to be different, with this young team they have got to win those first 5 games. Hopefully that will give the team confidence and the roll they need to pull a few wins out of the last 7.

I know its a stretch, but Wisconsin could lose to UNI( first game jitters against an always tough UNI), at Oregan St (go Beavers- West Coast jinx), and at Nebraska. A 2-3 record in first 5 games COULD happen!!

Iowa COULD be 5-0?

Well my preseason research on Wisconsin and Iowa is officially done. You should release a publication.

On paper, none of them. But having two rival teams in the first 5 games is a little dangerous.

I agree momentum in the first five games is important given the depth and strength of the remaining schedule, but the fact that we're so concentrated on this importance of winning the first five is a red flag in and of itself.

There is a lot of time between now and kickoff of the season. It's too early to even start really gauging the team or the schedule, imo. I am just talking in more of a generic sense...if we lose a game in the first five it's not the end of the world.
