Wisconsin -3

It's only a penalty if they use another player to elevate themselves (i.e. climb up their back). The block was not the fault of the kicker at all.

Playing Wisconsin after they lose is never good, but I'm still taking the Hawkeyes to win straight up because it's a night game at Kinnick.
That was changed prior to last season.

https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/...hurdling-offensive-linemen-block-kicks-banned

The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a rule prohibiting defensive players from running toward the line of scrimmage to leap or hurdle offensive linemen to block field goal and point-after-touchdown attempts, beginning with the 2017 season.

Previously, defensive players could leap or hurdle offensive linemen if they didn’t land on another player.

It's extremely risky, and dangerous, for a player to do it to begin with.

An offensive lineman could flip you ass over teakettle and deposit you head first into the turf.

That probably has a lot to do with why it was banned.
Right, which is why I'm confused that it seems that a UNI player was allowed to do it.

I still have the game on DVR, and just watched the blocked FG again. The UNI defender actually didn't break any rules.

The definition of "hurdle" is to jump over something while running. He clearly didn't do this because he was lined up on the line of scrimmage and couldn't get a running start. The defender also put his arm down on the offensive lineman first before jumping over him.

Weird, so you can leap over players, you just can't hurdle.

Reading alot of post on here today about how mad wisc going to be and having to play them after they lost and blazzey blah blah! Get a f**king grip it's wisc for crying out loud not frickin bama. This f**ing Iowa fan base must of got pussified sometime as now we're supposed to be scared of playing wisky dick! At one point in time we used to kick their asses often and regularly. Now look...oh no Wisconsin coming oh me oh my! Get a grip people. Just like sparty, wisky wanted to model their program after Iowa so if that's what they have done what the hell we scared of!!!!

The rule you referenced as it is written doesn't make it illegal to jump, leap, or hop over anyone. It only prohibits getting a running start before doing so.

Rule 9-1-11-b (FR-91). No defensive player who runs forward from beyond the neutral zone may leap or hurdle in an obvious attempt to block a field goal or try.

Again, the defender was NOT in violation because he was lined up on the line of scrimmage.

I think many of us are giving Wisky far too much credit. They most likely were over-rated going into last week and their defense is no where near as good as last year. I guess we'll see on Saturday night.

Spot on. Their D is pretty mediocre. Their QB is a shade below par too, who is he, Hornitoad?
And you guys are half scared cause Buckie is going to roll in mad?
Eff em. If they earn the win so be it.

Someone posted in another thread that Wiscy may have big heads from reading too many of their own press clippings, maybe a hangover from their big bowl win over the U, stuff like that.

If true, and I don't know if it is, that would have affected their off-season workouts and preseason practices. If your head is not in the right place you can't fix that in one week. Chryst yanked several O linemen for a series which was a very interesting turn of events. When was the last time you had to question Wisconsin's offensive line?

Agree. I just don't see us moving the ball against them at all. UNI was simply bad. Stanley just isn't going to get it done, any pressure and he just panics, and he will see plenty of pressure from here on out. I think Wisconsin will be able to move the ball against us with some success. Not sold on our pass defense against a qb that can actually throw.

Did you watch Hornybrook? He is VERY average and not all that mobile. They have no speed on the outside. They have a really good running back. So did Iowa State.
They have no downfield passing game either.
Could be a 3-0 game.
Will be a tough game but Wisconsin is not some dominant powerhouse coming in. It will be like most Iowa games (close) Break here and there and Iowa could win.

Completely disagree. I think because of the BYU loss way too many of you are taking them way too lightly. Thankfully KF won't. BYU didn't do anything to Wisconsin that they wouldn't have done to Iowa.

People seem to forget this is a program that has dominated Iowa over the last decade. If they win Saturday, that will be 5 in a row at Kinnick. Has any B1G program done that outside of Ohio St during the HF/KF era?

Back in 2016, they barely survived a game against FCS Georgia State in the non-conference season and went on to sweep the West.

I believe Iowa has scored 1 offensive TD against them in 3 games. And they'll be by far the best defense Iowa has played this year.

I can't wait for AJE to be up in Hornibrooks grill all game. You think Stanley doesn't want to atone for how last yrs game went? Folks it's going to be on and there's blood in the water now. Wisky should be shaking in their over rated boots.

There's maybe one QB alive who could have maybe won that game last year and that's Cam Newton. Even Tom Brady would have been eaten alive. The offensive line was bad in that game last year and it wasn't Stanley's fault that he can't throw the ball with a guy hanging off his legs and two hands right in front of his face 7 tenths of a second after the snap.
