Willies v. Ruddock? Why the Difference in Perception?

Uhhh you are seriously crediting jake for not quitting during the season when he was handed the starting qb position at a big ten school on a silver platter and got to see virtually all starting reps in both practice and games for two full years. Even when he had god awful games, his coach would praise him to the media. OFCOURSE he didn't quit mid season. He was not just treated fairly. He was given an UNFAIR advantage that ****** a lot of hard working players off.

meanwhile willies never once got a fair shot. He was used sparingly at best. When he did see the field, he made huge plays. However, after busting his butt in practice only to watch d3 caliber wrs play over him, he was was understandably frustrated at being treated unfairly and left.

Jake was given more than a fair opportunity and he failed as a qb so he was yanked. For that he refuses to compete and quits. Hero? Willies was mistreated so he goes somewhere he will get a FAIR opportunity.
Villain?

Look, I was/am a huge Willies fan. He should have been on the field for every single offensive play. However, DW left mid-season and that is quitting on his teammates, in season.

I have been a big CJ advocate, but JR finished the season and didn't quit on his teammates. P

Period.

And to make matters even more bizarre, now I read on the cover of hawk central that Kirk is allowing Jake to use the facilities and work out with the coaches and team even AFTER announcing that he is leaving the team? Yet Willies was not even allowed to participate in anything having to do with the team after begging the coach to let him back on the team, where he still had 3 years of eligibility left? Very strange. Kirts favoritism has no bounds. Similarly, Wegher could not even participate in Iowa's pro day, which takes no effort on the part of the coaches, because he left the team. Again, Jake is the golden boy so the rules don't apply to him. This goes to show that the other QBs who left when Jake was anointed starter over them were right that they would never get a fair shot.

The only Bizarre thing around here is you, and the fact you don't understand the difference between quitting during the season, and transferring in the off season.

You do remember that Willies was with the program start to finish for less than 2 years right and quit mid season. Not sure if it's a fair comparison. Not saying it's entirely fair but IMO the fact that Jake graduates in May doesn't hurt his standing from the perspective of the university or the coach. Or the fact that I think is safe to say that if Jake wasn't leaving CJ was.

Iowalaw I'm not really sure where you're going with the "unfair" treatment of Willies and Wegher of all people? Seriously what's the program supposed to do pay their way at the next school? Jake gave Iowa 4 years, which is more than Willies and Wegher combined. Not sure why we're trying to make him out to be a villain.

and what should we deem from all this. Iowa should not, I repeat should not recruit another QB named Jake!!! It does not turn out to well.

I am a little confused about the difference in hawk fan perceptions of these two disgruntled Hawks. Willies came in with a good deal of hype, outshined everyone on the roster in the spring game, then was buried on the depth chart despite his obvious abilities behind several WRs who would not see playing time in the MAC. Due to coaching favoritism, Willies sees his only hope of living out his dream to play college football is to go to a program where he gets a fair shot. He leaves to team and is vilified by hawk fans as a traitor and a bad teammate.

Then on the other side of the coin, you've got Ruddock. A guy who wildly underperformed as a sophomore, but still started every game and had the head coach talk glowingly about him to the point where two highly talented backup QBs saw the writing on the wall and bolted Iowa because they knew Jakey was the favorite child of the coach. Jake comes out and underperforms his junior year while playing ahead of a pretty clearly more talented QB, and the coach still sings his praises. When Jake had horrible games, the coach simply praises the job he has done in the classroom while continuing to refuse to give the backup a fair shot. Jake walked around campus with a feeling of entitlement that he did not earn. Finally, when donors and fans force Kirk's hand to let the backup get a fair shot, Jake takes his toys and snubs the Iowa program that has paid for his tuition for the past 4 yrs and says if he can't be the starter and play every down, he is leaving. Fans react by....praising him!??? What gives?

Willies was not given a fair shot, had loads of talent, and left because he never got to see the field while less talented players did. Jake gets to start for two solid seasons and, at the very least, would get a fair shot at first string this year, and he packs up and leaves the hawks hanging without a backup. Why isn't there more outrage about this? Why is Kirk so magnanimous to Jake and makes it clear that Jake can go anywhere he wants with no hard feelings or can come back. Meanwhile, when Willies tried to come back, Kirk won't even talk with the kid, and tells the press that "he's concentrating on the rest of the season and can't think about Willies at that time." Give me a break.

welp...can't argue with your first 5 words. The rest is pretty much your opinions/conjecture/prophecy stated as fact.....good to see nothing has changed.

I've ignored you for the most part, but I think you'll be fun.

I think KF was ready to make the switch after Pitt but did not want Rudock to lose the job because of injury. So he gave Rudock one last chance and Iowa responded with that phenomenal 1st half against Indiana. So what was KF supposed to after that? You cant bench Rudock after Indiana. The reaction after the MD game has always mystified me, but it was a game Iowa could of won. But then iowa had another great game against NW, so you cant bench Rudock then.

The Maryland game COULD have been won if:

1) Our defense had shown up for quarters 2 through 4
2) Our stupid OC hadn't abandoned the run COMPLETELY after Weisman has gashed Maryland's defense on the 3rd quarter drive

Seems to me we had a COORDINATOR problem last year more than anything else.

That said, we also SHOULD have better utilized our QBs. If, as KF said, we had two "capable" QBs, mixing them up might just have been the thing to do.

I spoke to a visitor at our game watch last Sunday. He toured the new facilities with GD. From the conversation we had, my opinion is GD is throwing players under the bus, and would probably throw KF under the bus if he knew Brian wouldn't beat the living crap out of him for it. Frankly, Brian has my permission to do it, anyway.

Dude, you're spiraling. Rapidly. Downward.

Here's the difference in terms even a lawyer can understand (I assume you are a lawyer due to your handle):

1. You, iowalaw, have a client. Midway through the trial you tell the judge that you quit using the reason that your dad is deathly ill but there are rumors all around saying that's not the true reason you are leaving. Then, after a week or so, you tell the judge that you'd like to get back on the case. The judge says "I'm not going to consider that. But we can talk after this case about you handling future cases".

2. You, iowalaw, have a client. After the trial and verdict, you decide it's time to quit on this client. Rumor has it you're going to work for a competing law firm, but nothing has been confirmed yet other than you talking to the partners in the other firm.

Maybe you get this analogy and maybe you don't. With your posting history, I'd say you don't.
