Here's the best part of the Q&A from Willies current coach:
Q: What have you seen this spring from Derrick?
A: The first thing you notice is just physically. He's 6-4, 210 pounds. He's obviously a big physical presence. He runs very well. He's shaping up to be a red zone monster. He stays vertical. He just catches the ball, uses his body well. He's been extremely impressive.
He was a 3.0-plus GPA at Iowa and 4.0 GPA with us this semester. Guy's got it together. Real mature, very hard worker. He means business. He sticks around half hour to an hour after every single workout. He wants to be great. He wants to be successful. I think he's excited about his future, where it's going from here. He's the kind of guy who has it all together.
Q: What led him to transfer from Iowa? [Iowa rushed for 2,120 yards and 22 touchdowns and passed for 3,081 and 21 touchdowns last season.]
A: It just wasn't the best fit for him. Personally, I think he wanted to be in a place where he had an opportunity to be where they throw the football, the scheme offensively, being in more spread (offense) and catching the football and those types of things.
It's I (formation) football and two backs. I could see where he would be perfect for the system. He's great run blocking and blocking in general. I think he wanted to be in a place a little bit more opened up. Maybe a little warmer. He mentioned that.
I think that whole deal, he was ready to move on. I know [Iowa head] coach [Kirk] Ferentz put some stuff, do this, do some of this [to allow Willies to return to the team], but they tried to make it out like he was a bad kid or something. The guy had 207 yards and three touchdowns in the spring game and then he's not being used. It was frustrating. I think at that point in time he was just ready to move on.
Ferentz spoke glowingly of him. Not sure what your point is.
Are you refering to the generic speach he resights when every player leaves the program?
no.
are you defending the JUCO coach for doing same to a new current player?
Jon shut this thread down right now!
