Willies Tearing It Up at JUCO: Ferentz's Biggest Mistake To Date?

Willies has over 100 yards receiving in each of his past two games, coupled with 3 touchdowns and a ton of catches at the JUCO he ended up at. Guys like that should NEVER EVER have been riding the bench in favor of inferior talent on the Big 10 team with the worst WR corp in the conference last year. As our unathletic WRs continue to get no separation from quality CBs this season, and we are left with playing 2 star true freshmen WRs to try to get a spark, Ferentz and crew are going to have some major regrets on their hands.

Ferentz has made a lot of personnel blunders in his day (i.e. Herb Grigsby, Jake Christiansen, Brad Banks only starting his sr. year, etc.), but is playing walkon caliber WRs over Willies and not welcoming Willies back with open arms when he begged to be put back on the team Kirk's biggest blunder to date?

Um, we have played 1 game. 1 game and you have decided what we have already and we were ahead 31-0 and pulled the starters. If you were a coach and were ahead 31-0 how much would you show your next opponent in revealing more of the playbook? You don't know what Willies did or said and yet you know better. Hopefully you aren't a manager of people wherever you work because you would obviously let people walk all over you if you deemed they were good workers.

Honestly how he left and why he didn't come back is a moot point to be because in my mind, he should have been playing when healthy and if he was playing he would have never wanted to leave.

I don't care about some college kid being a baby and quitting. I care that we have a coach who sucks at deciding who to play. I'm really hoping he's turned a new leaf

To answer the OP's question, no I don't think its KF's biggest blunder. Sitting on the ball at the end of the Ohio St game in 2009 is still at the top of the podium there.

However the fact that a current JC WR is most likely better than each WR on Iowa's current roster is a bit concerning. What's really crazy is that Willies was a tough and willing blocker which is Kirk's top priority for a WR.

I think the knock on him was that he didn't know all of the routes. Well most Iowa WRs aren't fast enough to run routes properly so that kinda cancels out. Oh well, hope he keeps doing well at the JC and gets back to FBS next season.

He didn't know the offense.

Correction: He couldn't learn the offense. If everyone was lining up for him...and he ended up where he is...something must be amiss with this supreme talent.

I want that breakthrough receiver just as bad as everyone else...Powell got opps right away...and would have done more if JR could throw downfield more accurately. Pointing the finger at KF may be misdirected in Willies case.

I really like IowaLaw's go to move though. He's perfected it. Nice.

Maybe he'll come back to iowa next year. PS, the over under on this thread is 7 pages.

Over. I'm mad at myself I responded to the obvious troll. I won't read a single post of his but his stupid threads get a lot of mileage. I am guilty as anyone.

It's funny, you can always tell when one of his troll jobs starts to lose steam...Bam...he'll throw in another pointless post to keep it going or wait a couple days and start a new one.

Always the same topic...always.

YOu have no idea what may have been happening behind the scenes. Maybe he was having grade issues or something. You have no idea so not worth bringing it up & hashing it out. If there wasn't anything else going on, why didn't another Div 1 school grab him quickly?

He is the third best receiver on his JUCO team that scores 50 points in games that it loses. In the game they won they had 873 yards of offense. Having a straight one-to-one comparison to Iowa and its offense seems kinda silly.

Its not like this kind of thing is getting stuck in Iowalaw's head, I mean he was probably just checking the box scores of Southwest JUCO College Football and recognized the name by chance.

Why would a D1 school set a priority on a guy who isn't even good enough to play at Iowa? I don't think they spend too much time evaluating backup recievers at one of the worst wide reciever schools around.

I for one am shocked at the thought that a former Big Ten receiver is tearing it up at the juco level. Astonished actually. I'm also guessing that dbs at that level are as good or better than Big Ten dbs that are preventing our wideouts from getting any separation to make the comparison relevant.
