The DL loses 3 really good players. They'll have 57, 94, 95, & 96 (hopefully) back but they're going to need at least 2 other guys there to step up and be good rotation players.

We know at least one is coming with potential (Nixon)
We lose good seniors up front but don't necessarily get gutted. Obviously a couple players in the rotation still haven't had a chance to show that they can be three down players. They will.
Damn, I forgot all about that guy.

We have quality depth that we forget about behind quality depth that we can barely find snaps for. Kudos to Reese Morgan. The DL that he has built will carry this defense for the next several years.

Familiar with Whitewater as Central College (my alma mater) played them in football playoffs over the years.Thanks. I was attending a game at my daughter's college in Siberia, I mean Whitewater, Wisconsin.
With parents in town, Daughter and her roommate wasted no time heading to shopping mall!

Sorry Adam, I think that was my fault. I was drunk posting a reply about what Jon said and I forgot to quote what I was replying to and I think it got muddy after that
Anyway, the point I was trying to make (I think) is that stats are interesting and fun to look at, but they don't tell the whole story. There are too many variables. Having the Hawks listed as the #1 defense in the country as the stats say IS awesome and gives me warm fuzzies too. But my brain knows that Iowa is not the best defense in the country, and we are probably not even the best defense in the B1G either.

Why? It was the most abysmal offensive showing I've ever seen in College Football, at least. 66 TOTAL YARDS! I'm sure there are lower yardage totals in the modern college football era but I never saw them. It's the worst Iowa offensive showing I've seen in the 40 years I have been watching the Hawkeyes. It was brutal.
