Can KF & coaching staff actually pull it off this year? I'm doing my damnest to keep it real & not get too optimistic or hyped as in years past. Last year did it to me as I said never again will I overestimate this team. The schedule again is manageable for 8 or more wins. A little part in the back of my head thinks for some reason KF could pull off a surprise and have a great year. I don't know to hop on that & ride that hope or bury it. Anybody else have this sick sense that it could turn out to be a special season?

Yes I sense that this will be a special season. The biggest reason for that is that the defense is strong and experienced accros the board, and in the positions where they lost starters those were also positions with the best backups that were ready to step in. Great Iowa teams have had great defenses. This one is no exception.

Sorry folks Punxsutaney Phil saw his shadow.....3 more months of mediocrity. :)

Iowa doesn't even have a great defense. They are not ranked in the top 45 of any positions (offense and defensive units) of Phil Steele's magazine who has been pretty accurate in the past. He is picking Iowa 3rd in the west only because they play Maryland and Indiana. The only thing special about this year is they play a soft schedule. The team as a whole replaces 12 players of which only 2 are even on the radar for an all big ten caliber year (both of which are lineman)

If this season is special it is going to be historically bad if Sunshine or if the OL/DL runs into an injury problem.

The defense actually has a lot of talent coming back. 9 players have started at least 1 game. They have an All Big 10 defensive end and cornerback. The replacements at tackle are good, I don't see much of a drop off at all. The linebackers all have experience, and have bulked up. The safeties had an amazing spring. I don't see a drop off there either replacing a safety from last year. The best part is no group is inexperienced. Experienced defenses like this have always done well ever since Kirk became head coach.

Geez! Maybe nick is right. We have players who got minutes in at least one game. We're on our way now!

I don't know. I used to be very optimistic but over the last few years I have been nothing but negative, but I feel with good reason. Yet here we are on the outskirts of yet another season, radio guys are starting to throw out predictions. Some are giving us 8 wins, some are giving us a few less. Some say we could lose the first game, some are saying we can go 4-0. I feel my self wanting to by into the the CJ factor in fact I think I have but what ever I usually expect from team the exact opposite happens and I am really tired of being disappointed.

Exactly my frame of mind at the moment. Sick of being dissapointed.

I wonder if Phil Steele's magazine ranked Iowa at all the three years we ended up in the top ten? I bet not. Iowa is the ultimate development team In my opinion unlike any other team in the country. This will be a good year, we had losses but we have made all the right improvements in the right positions. QB and RB is a big improvement IMO.

They will be able to replace their losses well. The new starters at a lot of positions are looking good. A lot of the positions also were some of the deepest last year. All the new starters are sophomore or above too.

Seriously Lol. You would take Ruddock and Weisman over CJ and L. Daniels/JC. That's insane and its only the two most important positions in football.

I'm not sold on CJ. And I'm really not that sold on Daniels either.

I would rather see Canzeri be the #1 but I also understand he hasn't proven the ability to stay healthy but what has Daniels ever done? He had one good TD run against UNI last year where he didn't get touched and that's about it.

And we will feel the loss of the 4 lineman. Our LBs are not very good and now they'll probably get even more exposed.

So yes I'm serious, I think this team is worse than last years.

Your so full of ****... All I heard about after the spring game was the offense couldn't move the ball and CJ will be running for his life.

But maybe I should go reread your offensive line preview.

Jon should add a rule... If your idiotically optimistic, you can be banned.

I give the strong defense credit for that. These guys are working hard. I wish more people would give them credit.
