WILL MAY START?

FM was asked in his Press Conference today about the possibility of E May starting against Illinois. His response was as follows:

"I still think that while Josh hasn't shot the ball as well as he can, he has still been a very effective player for us, so we will see."

Help me out HN posters. What is FM seeing that the majority of us are not seeing? To suggest JO has been an "effective player" is insane if you ask me.

I also think May provides an important energy lift when he comes off the bench. If you swap Josh into the second unit, that bunch will struggle to score even more than they do now.

He's seeing JO hit every shot in practice? I don't know. I got nothing, either.

May needs to start. JO has done nothing and May is a sparkplug. Start him the next two games and get things rolling from the start. He absolutely must start for senior day

I like May off the bench.
He's averaging almost 25 mins game for awhile now. He's getting his minutes. Starting isn't that important.

The only thing that makes sense is the ceiling. May is a wonderfully solid player. A lot like Alex Smith in fb. JO has more upside....if he starts hitting. Remember last year and the disaster we would have had w/o Gatens?

His only real hope for dancing now is for someone to catch fire. JO is the best shot at that upside potential in Frans mind.

Remember whence Fran came. Mid majors look to get on a roll when playing the big boys. Habit are hard to break. Plus Iowa is not a solid team to be solid teams. Will take a hot streak.

May will start in my opinion. Where scoring will come from in that second group is anyone's guess.

Jo is a better passer, ballhandler. He isn't as good defensively but isn't the drop off people think (he is better than most of the hawkeyes at defense). His shooting hasn't been better but he has the better shot and has a huge upside offensively where may is there to be efficient.

The only reason may would get the start would be for senior day. His minutes are already high and he gives the 2nd team a very strong leader that the 1st team doesn't need. And down the stretch he will be out there anyway. If jo finds his shot don't be surprised to see both of them on the court late.

Without gesell we need to separate clemmons and jo because they are both streaky offensively. So it makes sense that with clemmons on the bench jo is in the game.

This year, waiting for Ogelsby to get on a hot streak is like a gambler on a losing streak waiting to draw to an inside straight flush. It could happen, but after a while, you got to say that it's just not your night, and pick up the rest of your chips and try again another day (next year).

Summary of Correctness In This Thread: Leave May where he is...he's getting plenty of minutes and without him the bench has no offensive punch unless McCabe hits a couple of 3s. It's not important who starts...it's who gets minutes and is on the court at the end.
