Will it get worse before it gets better?

I think for the first time ever you will see KF coach as if his job is on the line....you will see enough new wrinkles to fool everyone including Barta into thinking he has seen the light and is worthy of another year in 2016....then you will see him return to the same surly stubborn a** he that he has been for nearly a decade now. You heard it here first...DO NOT buy the act that you are going to see from him in 2015....it will be nothing more than a con by a desperate man.

Um, how much worse can things get?

I suppose there's still some room to fall from mediocre to bad but, yea, was thinking Hawks are already well past the "what do you think" stage -- and are firmly established at the 6-7 wins. They've "achieved" at or below 6 or 7 wins 7 out of the last 10 seasons, so, to "expect" them to level out there would be merely accepting reality.

There is no question about the mediocrity of Iowa football. The only question is if it will maintain mediocrity or continue to trend downward towards below average, as it has over the last decade:
- 7.3 W's and 3-5 in bowl games over last 10 years.
- 6.8 W's and 1-3 in bowl games over last 5 years.
- ??? over the next 5 years, until 2020 and the end of the dark age.

things aren't good right now .. but these aren't the dark ages of Iowa football.. that has already happened in the 60s and 70s and let's pray they don't return... It could get much worse than the current climate

I just love these types of posts. Nothing but opinion, conjecture, speculation and hope spun as "fact."

So, you're describing the critics that are certain it's a fact specific teams and players stink before they even play a game based upon ? Got it.

the team could move to asia.

The only thing that can get worse is if we would start losing more games and become a cyclone state of mind football program. Since that would take a hundred years to get that bad I don't see that happening. Winning cures all but the apathy that's setting in can be changed quickly if KF would get away from the we're just Iowa. Barta needs to come and let the fans know what we're getting is not good enough and the U of I needs to make the game day experience for the fans instead of a few at the top of Iowa's importance list. If we see hope and expectations 6 wins come with the expectation of better to come. Right now there's no enthusiasm and wins come with will next year be worse. Attitudes at the top need to change or the people do.

They have an excellent new facility, and they are putting together some great recruiting classes. I am expecting some very good seasons with a lot of wins!

You realize this class is going to end up where they have been the past 5 years right? Around low 40s-mid 50s and bottom 4 of the Big Ten. They can play up the "top 25 recruiting class" right now because all it is is quantity over quality. When all is said and done and the top talent signs Iowa will fall back. And talent level has been a contributing factor in the poor results recently.

I think you're right, because there's evidence he's done this before. I believe it was the 2005/2006 season where we limped to the finish (something we do more of than not, it's a myth that KF teams play better as the year goes on), and he came out and stated they were rededicating themselves to "Iowa" football.

We came out on fire against TX, but like typical KF, we call some odd play calling near the end of the game which ended the chance to win (and so did a bad penalty on the Chandler TD callback).

Guess my long winded point is, KF does this a time or two every other year. When his back is against the wall, the Hawks come out a bit more inspired (remember NW game this year), and he gets a majority of the fanbase excited because he'll show tendencies that we've all wanted to see....

Only to go right back to ultra conservative, bad management the next week.....and it's all because he got people off of his back for a week.

There are plenty of examples of this throughout his career. The no huddle offense that lit up Pitt at the end of the game, only to abandon it after two series against Penn St the next week. Same thing with having no huddle, but yet we still don't actually line up until the clock is winding down.

I personally don't think he has the talent this year to coach his butt off. He's a creature of habit, and our defense still doesn't look that strong. He can't handle shootouts, and don't trust his game management skills in close games either.

I believe that the 2016 class will continue it's momentum and move up in the rankings. They still have several great prospects that are likely to sign with Iowa. These include Richard Merritt and Jauan Williams (OL Washington D.C.), Matt Farniok (OL Sioux Falls), Devin Duvernay (WR Texas), Harry Ballard (WR Missouri), Emmanuel Rugamba (WR Illinous), Jared Mayden (DB Texas), Eric Burrell (DB Maryland). Five of them or maybe a surprise will finish this class nicely. Iowa has a good chance on all of them. So I look forward to seeing this class do great things at Iowa!

Do you expect the w/l record to level at around 6-7 wins, or do you expect the W/L to sag? And then do you anticipate a rebound - all assuming KF remains.

Iowa will be 1-3 in non conference. The only win will be to North Texas. 3-9 overall. Write it down. Who are the playmakers on this team? CJB? He will have no line in front of him.

This is the perfect amount of pessimism for my sad and glass half full fandom, because why should we expect better? No reason.

If we are 3-9 with this schedule, the program will be burnt to the ground and Iowa will be looking for it's next savior.

The 2016 class is 2-3 years away from making any impact. Kirk won't last that long.

You must me lost. This is not the clown board. They will be 1-3 in the non-conference....But 3 wins overall might be a stretch!

I'm not certain about this year, but even if Ferentz doesn't do well this year any of the recruiting will help the next coach. Though I don't think it will come to that.

Ferentz is a great coach that is, from the looks of it, finally opening up to how the game is changing. If this is a decent year and he gets rid of Davis next year, and replaces him with Brian--or even just someone off the street--The offense might be able to open up and do something, instead of paralyze players with terminology etc.
