Will Iowa get sued...?

If they end up permanently losing 30% of their kidney function (or whatever the number was), their parents and their parents' lawyers might persuade them to do so. Think about it...how many of these guys are going to have a CAREER in football (as you suggest)? A settlement from a moneymaking athletic department at a state university is a pretty good chunk of change for some of these guys.

If a player's career is over due to the kidney ailment, then yes, they may sue.

And I would agree that Iowa would like to settle, if the amounts aren't outrageous.

What exactly has iowa done that is illegal?

Pattern of abuse?

Former players to testify to abuses?

Did the players do anything to jeopardize their health prior to the workouts?

-Doesn't have to be illegal
-Doesn't need to be a pattern
-Workouts done previously don't matter
-Could be a factor, and would be taken into consideration. Should still be monitored by UI FB staff.

Here is a quote from Rod Gilmore:

“As a lawyer, I have to tell, in my opinion, you’re probably looking at some guys thinking about filing suit against the university,â€￾ ESPN college football analyst Rod Gilmore said Friday on ESPN’s “College Football Live.â€￾

A lawsuit is certainly not out of the realm of possibility... I don't think it would ever make it to court however....

You don't have to establish a pattern of abuse....

how do you monitor what someone does in secret?

Not monitoring what they do 'in secret'. What they do in the workout.

This workout was supervised by a UI FB staff member, and 13 players ended up in the hospital. Those guys are his responsibility, and even if they hypothetically got completely pss drunk the night before their well-being is still his responsibility during his workout.

no, but you have to establish abuse, if that is what your line of thinking is in filing a lawsuit with hopes of winning it, i would think. and if that were the case, a pattern of abuse/injuries would certainly help your case.

of course, there needs to be nothing done illegal or otherwise to file a lawsuit. no patterns of abuse, etc. like i said previously, all you need is $50 for the filing fee.

if someone is seriously injured from this long-term i don't think it will come to such. iowa will take care of the situation, imo.

but if someone is going to file, and just because they are 'thinking of it' as gilmore states, and not because they are permanently physically damaged, they are up against it, IMO. so far, from what is known (and not a lot is) Iowa doesn't have a pattern of wrong here, and they have quite a long track record of practice.

i do think it will come out (it may never come out - iowa may simply keep it in house) that these 13 guys have something in common more than just rhab. whether that's having the flu, having a hangover, taking a supplement of some kind, a combination of......

they were monitored. i thought you were commenting on the taking of supplements not authorized and/or drinking prior to this regimen. I don't think their well-being was questioned. they didn't collapse, pass out, want to stop but not allowed to, etc., as far as we all know. if that were the case, then i'd have a change in tune. so far, nothing i've heard leads me to believe that is the case.

If your workout lands 13 people into the hospital, then you have established abuse don't you think. Kind of like a drill sergeant being court martialed for abuse of a trainee.... Happens frequently.

i'm still waiting for the detail of the training from you, if you follow my logic.

or are you going to call for a code red........

I find it amusing how people are just jumping to assumptions in all of this, either way. Man, can nobody let this stuff play out before we start casting blame?
