Wichita State #3

It has to do with perspective. Some of us are old enough to have lived through parts of the 70's of fans...back when fans were looking for any sign of life. HF and LO changed all that. As long as fans are content with mediocrity, then it will stay that way (mostly talking football). Like it or not, the verdict is still out on Fran. Don't want to see another 10 year deal yet on Fran.

As far as talking down, there is a dif between fun and talking down. Some of you are way to serious about looking for positives.

I don't know everything, my kids will tell you that.

Do think there is going to be a lot of people upset about how the basketball season goes and wanting to go crazy mad or something. Fact is they are improved and improved greatly. There are still major issues with this team. Didn't know boards had to be serious and only see positives.

A few (3) of you use the word Troll so much you are also acting like others are stupid and only you know best. You should stop talking down the same. Using that word is pretty lame. Earlier you et al would use it when anyone would disagree. So I've gotten a bit more direct about some of my opinions.

That said, I'm still not impressed with losing to WS by 12 and the game wasn't that close in reality.

We aren't really going to know much for about 3 more weeks. Actually not until the end of the season.

And I do know what I'm talking about in re to speed issues whether you like it or not. Mentioning elicits the big T word from about 3 of you. Its ridiculous frankly. And now I am talking to you. Before I'm just giving it back.

I think your first sentence is extremely ironic, because perspective is a quality you are sorely lacking.

And you're way too serious about keeping the rest of us fools in check.

What we as fans think should have no impact on what the team does. We see reasons to be excited about the future, and don't lose our minds in frustration over a loss to Indiana at this point. We're looking for progress. The players shouldn't ever be satisfied with just coming close.

You also are under the impression that people are impressed by staying within 12 of WSU (even though the game wasn't that close, as you said). But that is a good team, and a loss to them isn't going to hurt Iowa come selection time. A win would have helped, but that's not a bad loss. Which is why some people are interested in how they do.

Just saying ain't nothing to be proud of. WS has played 0 ranked teams and beat Drake by the same score as Iowa.

Who doesn't know college B ball?

Show me where we played Drake again? I must have missed that game.

Johnny, he wasn't saying that Iowa played Drake, he was saying that Wichita State beat Iowa by 12 points, Wichita State also beat Drake by 12 points. Using his logic that is Iowa is equal to drake.

I'll take my beatings on this one...My original comment wasn't so nice. However about 3 peoples use of the T word in disagreements is equally or more so ridiculous. Iowa still needs a signature win, not a signature loss. The game may have been a 6 point game late, but WSU soundly won that game from about every perspective. If we had some signature wins, then I'd be looking at how good WS is. Fact is that they aren't a proven good team...yet. Sounds just like the Hawks. They haven't played anyone (or beaten) to take on that role regardless of how they are ranked as a mid major. Mid majors should be trouble at their place, not a neutral site. The first couple of rounds in the NCAA is a crap shoot. Some of you who are upset with me are still upset with Alford over NW State.

Any team coming out of a conference tourney as a win has momentum.

Agreed! Clearly Iowa has gotten better as the season went on. The guy wonders why people on here call him a troll.

You have never heard me say they aren't improved year over year and through this season...as are most team.

I knew you couldn't go long without calling a T.

Oh ILHawk, you need to calm down, said that people take this stuff too serious but yet you seem to think everyone needs to curb their expectations against better talent but yet we can't accept mediocrity or the program won't get better.

I forgot the rest of us haven't been around to follow the hawks since the '70s when Iowa athletics sucked to understand your wisdom.

What ever Dave... analyzing things does not make one not a fan. Hawks are the best. Never lose unless robbed by officials or screaming opposing coaches ya ya ya.

Your just mad I get on you for over use of T word. And it's not like you used just on me. Like I said, circles never end. We'll never agree and that is ok. And there is nothing wrong with disagreeing over being positive about a WSU loss. Nothing wrong with you getting on me about it either.

Really? NCAA tournament are at neutral sites last time I checked.

You have validity in some points, I get the whole a loss is never good and it isn't, but the whole "I have seen this much basketball" argument is bs because it does not apply.

I don't care what the state of the program was 40 years ago, I didn't see it, I like history and all that and would have loved to see past players play. That has no bearing on my opinion of Iowa today. The only history that affects Iowa today is the last players that were at Iowa when Lick was still there.

What else matters? Not a hell of a lot, other than Iowa going out and being competitive, something they weren't with the links back to Lick. The other thing that matters is Iowa winning a big game. If you think the jury is still out on Fran then you are the said jury. Fran has proven he can take a train wreck and make it run again. If you are worried about a crazy contract, then you must not be worried about a whole lot.

I covered that point.

Fran has proven he can take a train wreck and make it run again. So has KF.

then you must not be worried about a whole lot. No, I'm not worried about a lot. I'd like to see Iowa back, but it won't impact me much either way. I quit watching games and now I watch again.

Glad you watch again, I never stopped watching, but stopped watching full games for a period.

The successes of the mid-majors has not just been limited to the first two rounds in recent history and I like it, it makes for a better Tournament and argument on Selection Sunday, put more in and more "upsets" will happen.

ILHawk,

I'm just messing with you. In all seriousness I agree with you. People need to realize that this team is young, extremely young and they are going to make mistakes. I think people get their expectations too high, much like football. I know they are different Ferentz was able to have success at a high level but wasn't able to maintain it for a long period of time. However, I mean in the short term if this team doesn't get to the tournament or colapses in the B1G regular season I don't want people to go into full melt down.

I just want people to enjoy the season and whatever happens, happens. Next season is when I will start to get my hopes up for this team.

No one is calling this a signature loss. It's just a loss to a good team. The reason we pay attention to how they are doing is because if they tank it turns into a BAD loss. That's the whole point of starting this thread. It's that the WSU loss wasn't a bad loss.

Ding, ding, ding...just like VT and the tanking they are doing right now.
