Why would anyone play a defense other than the 1-3-1 against us

The killer part is that it's so easy to attack but we play right into their hands continuously. Cartwright is the main culprit. He has been a turnover machine and throwing lob passes around their outstretched hands.

It's easy to defend if you have a pg who can shoot the basketball, we don't. Wed be better of playing oglseby or gatens at the point
 
We didn't run the floor and push the ball. We tried to play 1/2 court offense against a zone we couldn't beat. I really am having trouble understanding what is going on right now. They are beating us at our own game.
 
We are bad against all zones, or any type of pressure for that matter. However when we play pressure full court D opposing teams get lay ups all day against us. Watch film on that and learn how to beat a press/zone. Also throw it to people in our color uniforms.
 
Agree with DuffMan. We are the worst shooting team in the big ten and we can't defend. I know we have a talent deficit, but McCaffrey has had all season to "fix" the defense and we are abyssmal. Way to step up for a must win game. This is freaking NW, not OSU or MSU and we still can't rebound or do anything inside.

Pretty telling that a true freshamn is the only one who came to play tonight.

when you have long players that move well a 1-3-1 is a very good trapping half court defense. every defense is beatable if you attack it correctly.
 
You have to have players to win. We don't. No PG and our big men other than White and McCabe are turrible.
 
If the gurads could stop dribbling into the middle of the zone it would be much better. Ball movement breaks every zone. If you can't quickly move the ball well then you will get beat.

Because it's designed to overcompensate for guys who can't play defense themselves.

actually a 1-3-1 when done correctly is one of the most difficult to play and beat. if players are athletic enough it is really just as tough as a really good man team.
