Why the NIT matters - Chicago Cubs

A lot has been made about the fact that the Cubs haven't won a World Series in something like a century. But Cub fans, rejoice, because the Cubs and Sox used to play in the City Series after the season was over. The Cubs won that series in a 7 game nailbiter back in 1928. Now sure, it might not have been the World Series, but the Cubs used that as a springboard for a stellar 1929 season and learned how to close out a close 7 game series. So when some Cardinal fan brings up some useless stat like it has been a hundred some years bince the Cubs last won a World Series, you point them to this. The City Series, just like the NIT, was an important post-season playoff and it shouldn't be diminished in any way.

Chicago City Series, 1928 results

You're trying way too hard here, you should really just stick to trolling football. It would be better for everyone.

But I have to admit the last few posts of his have made me laugh. He is reaching for anything right now. Next he will probably complain about Iowa spending all that money on travel to a tournament that means nothing. We gotz bills to be paid at home dammit!

What if Woodbury gets hurt in a non-conf game next year? We shouldn't even play those, just save the starters for important B10 games!

Nope, we are rolling in dough from the gate. Hell, we should just skip the NCAA next year if we get an invite and pocket all the NIT cash.

Non-conference games leading up to Big Ten play actually mean something. They get the team ready to play and they are critical for building RPI. Seven months from now when the next season is starting a game at Virginia will have meant nothing.

Like a game against Drake is really going to get Iowa ready to play in the B10, we face better competition in practice. Shut em down until the B10 season starts.

I'm sure the NCAA appreciates Iowa' 2 sellouts and another near sellout last year in the NIT since Iowa doesn't get that money. And can't complain about travel since they are reimbursed for travel in the NIT.

THAT ICE CREAM MONEY BETTER NOT BE MAKING SOME GOON AT THE NCAA RICH.

It's not everyday you get to witness OK4P have a prolish message board meltdown, quality entertainment today.

Look, guy, I'm just trying to help the fanbase help itself here. You come on here and puff up your chest about the NIT, fine, I'm just concerned that you guys are walking around Merle Hay Mall decked out in Iowa gear bragging to Clown fans about our NIT run or something. I'm genuinely worried about folks getting committed to a mental institution.

Omg you are right, those players picked up a lot playing Coppin State before the conference opener. Playing that game helped them almost beat Indiana.

You are making me feel so guilty about Iowa going on the road and winning at Virginia. The players learn nothing from it and we all look like idiots for enjoying the win. What a complete waste of everyones time, especially if we were not even getting a share of the ice cream profits!

If a Clown fan came on here and bragged about ISU being in the Pinstripe Bowl, wouldn't you assume he is just a troll? Oh crap, oh crap, you guys have spent the whole dang morning trolling me. You guys really don't like the NIT, do you? Dang it. I swore I would never take the bait.

Naw, any chest puffing I would be doing is about the future of the program and the direction we're headed, not just looking at the NIT in a vacuum. I thought you were smart enough to see the big picture OK4P?

Wow...did you hear the news from Northwestern? They hired a Duke guy...Chris Collins. I had to laugh as when he was asked, "what is your number one objective?"...he replied, "I want to get this school to their first NCAA tournament." Did anyone know that Northwestern has never made the tournament...I mean ever. OK4P...did you know that?

He must have been joking as no program can be so lame in a sport that they have never made the NCAA tournament in their entire existence.

No way bud, you have converted me. I now feel like crap about wanting the Hawks to win last night and coming here to celebrate it with fellow Hawk fans. Now I am only going to watch next Tuesday just praying Gesell or Woodbury do not suffer some kind of injury. In fact I am composing an email to Barta & Fran right now suggesting that they just forfeit the game and just take the guys out for some NYC pizza or something.

Yeah, I knew that. Seriously, last year my neighbor was so ecstatic when they won their first NIT game and he was talking about Shurna getting hot and them winning it all. They have it memorialized with a NIT banner. It is absolutely pathetic. I was worried that was setting in with our fan base but now I realized everyone is just trolling me so I'm cool. I'm gonna play along and see if we can get activebadger.

Everyone lay off OK4P today, please.

Guy has had a rough day. He got some emails that hurt his feelings. Just let him vent.
