Why the hell is Northern Iowa on Iowa's schedule

Somebody, please. Step foreward and offer a rational explanation for why Iowa plays Northern Iowa.

Who cares haha. It will be an exciting game. They play tough and its in state. At least fans are getting bang for their buck with this one. There are some snoozers on this list this year.

I agree. Iowa struggles against this kind of competition.

Well there have been a few close calls but to date Iowa still hasn't lost to Northern Iowa in football.

If you're going to pay a team to come in and lose, might as well be a team from your own state who could use the money.

There is none. Thank god Delaney stepped in and banned Big 10 teams from playing FCS schools after this season

except he really didn't. Or haven't you noticed that UNI is still on Iowa's schedule in the upcoming years or that Illinois State is on the schedule next year and North Dakota St the year after that

Keeps good money in the state, it used to be a yawner game but more competitive in the last 5-10 years.

If the hawks win big that is a good sign I would say.

I really don't see the issue here. Can someone tell me why playing UNI is bad? I don't see playing the panthers being any detrement to allowing this team to achieve what they are going to achieve.

$$$$ for UNI. The decision is a political one. It was the same situation with the resumption of the series with ISU. ISU was financially weak and the politicos put the heat on Iowa to resume the series.

Because we need canon fodder before the real season starts? Why not schedule a patsy? If we are any good it shouldn't matter. If we lose then it is a good indicator of problems. Thats Why!

It's a pay day for UNI obviously but it's also more then just a scrimmage. They are a top 10 FCS school yr in yr out. They beat ISU last yr did they not? They have a stud of a RB coming back I believe and they like to go deep in the passing game. If Iowa blows them out it would be a great sign. But if it's a ball game 2 score game or less it wouldn't surprise me in the least. Iowa will have to break a sweat and have to earn it. UNI doesn't usually beat themselves or give you anything.

Delaney and the B1G have agreed to no longer schedule FCS teams. The plan will take at least several years to go fully in effect for all schools, possibly after 2016 as football non-con schedules are filled out several years in advance in most cases.

The teams and games you are referencing are grand-fathered in but after they run their course it will be no more.

With Kirk's conservative approach and Gerg Davis' horizontal passing attack, this will not be more than a two-score difference one way or the other.
