Why the Committee Selected Iowa At #5.

In there eyes it really is a moot point. They know the BIG most likely will only get one team in and Iowa's only chance is to win the BIG title. So, placing them at 5 is just to show what they have done up to this point. They know they aren't going to get any higher and they know if Iowa has one loss, they are out of the picture.

They also know the other teams can move up with quality wins. So why media types like Finebaum get all butt-hurt why Iowa is sitting at #5 is stupid because it doesn't really matter as the games will dictate the decision, especially for Iowa. Iowa has one scenerio to get in and that is to undefeated and with the BIG championship. The committee knows this so is really not a big deal putting them at #5 as they are obviously putting the body of work into their decision.

Hey, that was gonna be my answer!

Re: Finebaum it is comical on several levels. So, you have an SEC guy pimping for the Big 12 (Baylor) and saying Baylor's tough games are coming up and you can't fault them for having not played them yet. Then, he bemoans Iowa's upcoming schedule and completely discounts that Iowa has ALREADY PROVEN the can beat top 25 teams on the road. To summarize, give Baylor credit for the tough part of their schedule they haven't played yet, and don't give Iowa credit for already having played a tough schedule.

The whole playoff process just shows how dumb 95% of sports media people are, they have a very poor ability to reason in a logical manner or to explain why they are upset.

I still don't understand the logic of putting Ohio State #3. I'm not saying they're not the defending champs and they don't deserve to be there, but by what METRIC do they deserve to be there? Their best win so far this year is probably Penn State.

How do they justify ranking Oklahoma State so low and Ohio State so high? Or ranking Ohio State over Iowa?

The whole process just doesn't make sense, but it draws a ton of ratings and interest, so I guess the bottom line is $$$$$$

Pretty much they get some clout with being the reigning champ, which they should if they are undefeated. You need to knock the king off the mountain. They really should be at least #2, IMO. You can't really knock them out of the top 4.

Agree, OSU has won 27 straight...they did not lose at home (to a 3 loss team)....I despise OSU (mostly cause we hardly ever beat them)...but they are the defending nat'l and B1G champs, they should be #1 until they get beat. Think in terms if that were Iowa, and you would agree... PLUS my main motive is I want us to be the team that takes OSU and the #1 team out in one swoop!

Because they want 1 Big 10 team in the top 4 and like most experts, fans see the name on the jersey and nobody is kicking and screaming because of last year and tradition (although those aspects shouldn't be factored).

Imagine if Iowa was in the top 4 and OSU out based on the schedule they have played so far. Merica would be going even crazier than they already are and the committe would be on blast. They can't take that risk.

Exactly. Iowa wins out, is in, and they look smart. Or...Iowa loses any 1 or 2 games, even if in the B1G Championship, and we drop outside the top 10-15, and are out, with all the talking heads cheering.

Keep winning Hawks.
