Why the Big 10 championship is the only thing that matters

Since the advent of the BCS, nary a year has gone by without some sort of BCS championship controversy. It seems that more often than not, you have a school that goes undefeated claiming that they were wronged. It seems that more often than not, there is an asterisk on the game.

What would have happened if Texas and Alabama both went undefeated? Or Nebraska and Oregon? Yes, an undefeated season was our goal, as was a national championship and it is horrible that we left so many points on the field.

But, my point is that a national championship is subjective, it is based on coaches, and crazy computers and conference bias. Yes, more often than not, the Big 10 champ if they go undefeated is going. But so is the Pac 10, Big XII and SEC champ.

What is not subjective is going to the Rose Bowl. That means that you have won your conference in no uncertain terms. Next year that will only be more true. When we have a conference championship game to determine a conference champion.

I love that college football doesn't have a aplayoff because it means every game matters, but part of me think an 8 team playoff made up of the 6 BCS conference champions and 2 at large selections (based solely on W-L & Strength of Schedule) would really be fun.

One last thing... I am pretty sure the good captain himself subscribes to this belief.

For evidence, I submit, Pittsburgh 2008. He saw that Stanzi was the best QB and put Jake back in for the entire second half so that he gave him his chance to keep his job.

Everyone watching that game knew Stanzi was the best QB in the first half, and immediately after the game, he was announced as the starter for the next game. KF sacrificed a non conference game for the good of the team once it got into conference.

That is more frightening than comforting if true. In the NFL that might fly theres alot of games, but not in cfb. If KF is thinking of anything besides who gives the team the best chance to win the game at hand then there is something wrong. Shouldn't matter if its Ball State or Ohio State.
