Why No Video Entrance and Player Countdown to Kickoff?

Does anyone know why they didn't show the players walking through the tunnel, on to the field, while playing "Back In Black"? Also, no player video countdown to kickoff?

I always enjoy those facets of the gameday experience. I hope they are not being done away with permanently.

I think it was just miss-communication, or bad timing. The team was already out of the tunnel when they started back in black.

EIU didn't leave the field after pre-game warm-ups and the band waited and waited to start their pregame show. Iowa had left the field several minutes before EIU. The band announcer basically started his introduction of the band with EIU STILL on the field. The band began moving to the field and EIU coaches and a few players almost got caught in them.

Then there were several pre-game recognitions that took forever. Loved all the well deserved people out there, but it did take a long time. So, some of the team stuff had to be removed from sequence I imagine.

Yes, we had to sit through introductions of the old girl's softball coach, field hockey coach, tiddly winks coach, etc. etc.

Give me a break. Save that stuff for the basketball season when no one cares anyway.

Weren't these folks the Hall Of Fame Inductees. It is a shame it distracted you.

I appreciate what those folks did for their respective sports but do it in front of their fans. I don't expect to see Chuck Long being introduced at a track and field event. I say keep the event related to football.

This. OR at the end of halftime. The back in black walk from the lockerroom is one of the best new traditions the Hawkeyes have going. Don't mess with it.

I was amazed at how poorly planned that whole thing was. Who's in charge of that?

The whole entrance was just a big "thud"

All the anticipation built up for that was pretty disappointing, but hey, I would rather complain about that than the football game :)

And BTW, Sean Kingston needs to go, someone should send/email a new playlist to the press box.

I have to many, many venues and Iowa's pre-game use of the big screen is NAIA type compared to most. Take Nebraska (who I despise) there video and pre-game before the team comes out is simply awesome and changes from week to week. I think Iowa really drops the ball here and it simply HAS TO CHANGE. Wonder who we could complain too..for a top 10 football program we really suck at this part.

I don't know that I would be complaining, just giving feedback/suggestions, which I think is always a good thing. It would definitely be constructive, rather than mean spirited.

For me, it was after the team came out, and waited for the anthem for 10 minutes with music going on and off the speakers, it was just incredibly awkward.

And I agree, having been to other venues, Iowa is VERY behind, as far as knowing how to use the sound system/scoreboard.

I think it was part of the new crackdown. That kind of pre-game setup gets people way too worked up. We just can't have that.

I agree that is what I meant...I would do it in a very positive fashion...when Husker fans come calling to Kinnick I guarantee they will laugh at our pre-game.

Its a shame the University disrespected them by having the induction in the impersonal environment of kinnick.

It should be done at the respective sport they were in. LIke the field hockey coach should be inducted at a FH game and so on.

Since the new system has been put it in I swear NOBODY has gone for training. Somebody needs to be sent for a season to a pro ball park to learn how to run a game atmosphere sound system.
Its like buying a super expensive organ and only using the foxtrot function.

You still have me laughing on this one ... You could not have stated it ANY better. Iowa needs someone new to take over the reigns of the scoreboard/sound system ... And please, can we stop playing the Journey song? That may have been the "in" thing last year at stadiums but please, let's not make that a part of our song selection for the next five years ...

I think they had a lot to do during the pre-game and just didn't have time to do the traditional entrance.

My guess is that it will be business as usual next Saturday.

I was a little disappointed as well. I brought my girlfriend to her first Hawkeye game and made sure that I got her there early to see the countdown and to see back in black while the team walks through the tunnel. Once I got in the team was already there. My girlfriend was like now what was so important that we had to get here so early? Maybe it was it that it was the first game gitters but hopefully it gets fixed by next week. But my girlfriend still said loved her first visit to Kinnick and is now a Hawkeye fan.

I've got no problem with recognizing coaches like Blevins at Kinncik. How many people go to the softball games? Not very many. She's one of the best coaches in college softball history. I didn't know that she was #2 all-time in wins. Coaches like that deserve to be recognized. And it's hard to get recognition without exposure.

next week may not be the same there will be a few events/moments dedicated to commemorating 9/11 (hopefully a fly by, with the team doing a patch/sticker of some sort). Remember this particular game was moved 9 years ago because of that tragedy. Moving the game to the end of the year that eventually was a loss.
