Why is it so hard to say "We lost today"?

Brace yourselves fellas.....next year is gonna be worse.

Not so sure about this.

Stanzi has thrown many awful passes this year and has made a lot of other mistakes. I think Vandenburg will be more mobile and more accurate. Stanzi has no zip on the ball and has just really missed innumerable wide open receivers this year.

We do lose a lot of great players in key positions so you may be right. The way we have played the last 2 games, we could get beat by tOSU & Minnesota as well as the bowl game.

If that happens I'm not so sure we couldn't match the W-L record of this years team with next years team.

Because I would have used a more successful defensive scheme against a spread offense.
Some guys on this team have the ability to prevent the pass completion, and I would have recruited other guys who I know could prevent the pass completion.
No lame excuses on recruiting...

I just read a thread about James Morris, Iowa's starting freshman middle linebacker.
Really, don't we have a middle linebacker / nickel back who can effectively cover the pass - against a spread team?

Back to task...

How many minutes did NW have the ball on those 2 scoring drives in the 4th quarter?
I'm guessing 9 minutes - about half of the 4th quarter. How long did Iowa's offense hold the ball in the 4th quarter? I'm guessing 3-4 minutes - at least 1.5 minutes were on their final drive. How many minutes would NW have held the ball in the final quarter with a "fit" defensive front line? With Parker's secondary scheme, probably the same amount of time.

Finally, I think Parker's best defense against spread offenses is our offense, so shame on you, offense, for not putting up big enough numbers.

You are going to be in for a world of hurt next year. Stanzi is having the greatest season EVER for an Iowa QB. If you are dissapointed in his play I hate to think about what is going to happen when JVB gets his shot. He certainly has some tools but there is no way he's going to play as well as Stanzi has this year.

I think you go to far... this is not the greatest QB season ever (Long and Banks come to mind). That said, I agree that it's going to be a huge drop off to Vandy next year.

Meant to have an arguably in there somehwere, though I do think he's breaking the TD in a season record.

Yep, be careful what you wish for in bashing Stanzi..the same poeple calling for Vandenberg this year will be the first ones to throw him under the bus after a shaky performance..it's a complete JOKE in all honesty!

Well, not everybody. I'm dissappointed because I love this team. But the same issues cropped up this week that were there last week (wide open receivers because of the matchup between the ball-control spread vs. bend but don't break), and Northwestern executed better than Indiana.

I got roasted all week for saying that, because we won last week. But our defensive scheme doesn't match up with this kind of offense.

There's not much difference between winning and losing, except for how the outside world treats you. And there wasn't much difference between our play from last week and our play this week. We just got a break last week, and we didn't this week. But it's frustrating that we rely on how the breaks go when we're playing teams like NW and IU that are vastly inferior talent-wise.

This is a correct statement and it has been a problem for KF and staff for his entire career at Iowa. We play to the level of competition. Year in and Year out and hope we get a break for a win.

Iowa has 31 current NFL players and many who will play in the NFL off this team. We should play better as a favorite and we have not.

We got dominated at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball the last two weeks. If you watch them closely IU and NW both had fire and determination and beat us up front.

People are frustrated because of how Iowa is losing. Giving 10 yard cushion's negating your own pass rush, asking linebackers to cover receivers all day long just to name a couple. Yesterday after the sack that put Northwestern at 2 and 19, down 10 points with under 8 minutes to play, Iowa remained with 3 linebackers on the field. I ask, why? It's not as though Northwestern is a running team to begin with, not to mention they are down 10 points with the clock ticking. It was an obvious passing down and the Iowa staff is expecting James Morris to cover a receiver who runs 20 yards up the field and then comes about another 15 across the field where Persa hits him with a 20 yard gain? So basically Morris is trying to stay with a receiver for 40 plus yards, not a tightend, but a receiver. That makes no sense. Why not go with a dime package in that situation? It's scheme's like that that has Iowa fans scratching their heads. It's like Spielman said yesterday, it's liking stealing candy right there.

Iowa is the better team and lost because of coaching schemes, namely on defense. Yes, give the Wildcats credit, but it's obvious that the scheme was killing Iowa yesterday.

Instead of saying, "you know what, we got beat", we have to make blame the OC, DC, HC, Coaches, QB, Offense, Defense, Special Team, Play Calling.... ad nauseum. The way some of you act you have never lost anything in your life. It's pretty pathetic.

Whatever dude...I'm sick and tired of losing games we should win. The 4 million dollar man better start figuring out how to motivate his players..

They knew this was a big game.

They know NW has their number

They absolutely knew what that NW freshman said to that media guy

And they STILL come out flat?

Thats coaching

BOO
