Why Iowa Fans Shouldn't Care about a CFB Playoff.....

The bolded statement is laughable. College Basketball is a dead stick, has been for 15 years, and is now sinking in the mud.

College football is second only to the NFL in this country. The ratings and interest of a playoff will blow the basketball F4 out of the water.

Just because a crap load of females and office nerds who have no clue about sports, don't watch any games in the tourny, & fill out a bracket on the off chance that they discover that in early April they lucked their *** off and won a pool doesn't mean the care about basketball. They simply care about gambling.

Yes to all of this. Football is a spectacle for Americans. THe ratings for this playoff will be huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge.

This new concept of playoff football really doesn't hold much fascination personally. After week 4 of the regular season at least 60 of the 120 FBS schools will have eliminated themselves from qualifying. After weeks 5 and 6 it will be down to about 15 teams still in the running, if that. From that point on it will be waiting to find out who gets eliminated each week and those games will be the focus of the media. It won't be on conference championships or rivalry games.

In the short run this is a new way to generate $$$$$, but in the long term you are going to get weary of the same few teams monopolizing the playoff spots. Greed always prevails and the short cut takers are going to rule this playoff idea.

Not to mention, D1-A college football is the ONLY sport at any level where a playoff or tournament is not used to determine the champion. A playoff is used in all major sports.

Get. Over. It.

And it happened to be the best regular season or sporting event weekend/season out there. Weird.

Untill they make it conference champions, and it will eventually be that way, than its just another slightly less terrible version of the same old stupid voting popularity contest where its not decided on the field.

In all other levels of football you make the playoffs by winning your division. Highschool, 1AA, NFL, CFL ect... and thats how college should be.

This idea that you can get the 4 "best" teams is absurd. Thats the equivalent of voting in the final four in basketball, it ridiculous.

You set up 4 or 8 conferences, preferably 8, (B10, B12, SEC, PAC12, ACC, Bigeast, Mountain west, Conf USA,) everyone has a championship game and the winners advance to play eachother.

Its simple and its the only way that makes sense.

Exactly...some year (soon) it's going to be an ALL-SEC playoff...(you know it's coming, their coaches were giddy with the thought..) It's such a load of carp. "But we're the second best team!!" yeah and you didn't win the conference...you shouldn't get another shot...

I don't know about all 4 but I can see where they make an arguement for 3. Arkansas finished in the top 5 in a couple of polls last year and what if Georgia had beaten LSU in the SEC championship game? Georgia may not have gotten ranked high enough to be considered as they were 16th in the BCS and 14th in the Coaches Poll. So they take 2 teams from the same conference that are not even considered the SEC champion?

This is where these conferences need to step up and play less non conference games. This way they play each other more often to knock each other off and not allow these types of scenarios to happen. As a fan I would much rather see Iowa playing Wisconsin every year than Tennessee Tech or MAC.

Yeah, that one. The one that's hugely popular. Everyone likes it, so we should change it into something else.

What exactly have they changed?
Regular season still matters, maybe more.
Bowl games still matter, some matter more.
conference championships still matter, maybe more.

I get that you don't like change but giving the "customers" what they want is hardly a bad business move. And yeah, I know, you're a customer & you don't like it but you are in the overwhelming minority. Once again, I wanted a Plus One, but I can get behind this.

More importantly, the B1G better get behind this and actually win something or they continue to decay in the eyes of the average fan. Its a decade and counting.

There's almost always going to be a second-place team in one of the BCS conferences that's better than the champion of the MWC or CUSA or even other BCS conferences. Winning a crap conference shouldn't automatically get you into the playoffs.

You're right. The NFL should drop the Super Bowl in favor of a BCS-style championship.

No, that works for the NFL and their responsibility is to fill as many stadiums as possible. I seriously doubt attendance will start dropping at Kinnick or anywhere else after they lose their first game and eliminate themselves from playoff contention.

If ISU fans are going to take the credit for moving to a playoff, will they take the blame if the playoff system sucks?

But thats the way it is in all other sports and no one has a problem with it.

Thats the way all other playoffs work, there are stronger and weaker divisions but you don't pick the teams.

If you start letting multiple teams from the same conference in than it does start to lessen the importance of the regular season.

Yep, when they get to 16 teams they will probably allow the Sun Belt Champ a spot in the playoffs.
