Why does CJ get a pass with everyone?

The guy was hurt, all you have to do is watch videos from both years on his release. Even in the bowl game he had to wind up and throw.

The real problem is the system doesn't get capable back ups ready. Any criticism of CJ is just plain dumb. Not many Iowa players over the year played their guts out as much as CJ. KF is the guy you should be upset with.

Ok ok, we'll stop making comments and posts about your cousin. We get it.

My sense is that he was either hurt or coached to stay in the pocket and take his lumps. Last year, his ability to scramble and make plays and continue drives was a critical element to their success. Think ISU, Pitt, Minnesota, Indiana. This year, he rarely scrambled out of the pocket. As a result, he was less effective than 2015.

He's a kid and played his guts out. Call out the coach. CJ deserves nothing but thanks from fans.
I love how you always say he's a kid. He's a man not a kid. 19 year olds stormed the beaches at Normandy and you act like a college graduate is a precious little child that should be sheltered from criticism. He wasn't as good as you thought and deserved criticism. We all think he's a good guy and a tough player but everyone has the right to be frustrated with how bad he was whether you believe it or not.

First, I seriously doubt you know more about WW2 soldiers than I do and I'll leave it at that. 2nd, there is a reason why they had 19 year olds storm beach's and fly fighter aircraft. They do what they are told and think they are invincible. Still they were scared to death.

I never thought he was NFL, except that maybe the class was weak. Still the criticism is on KF.

There were a lot of factors as to why he struggled this year. The OL, though it improved over the course of the year, really wasn't all that good at pass protection. Early in the season, he was still coming off surgery, and he was taking hits constantly. He didn't have anybody to throw to. He got injured (again). He was a game manager in a Greg Davis offense. He also had family stuff to deal with (such as a pregnant girlfriend and a new born child at the end of the season).

He played his heart out for his team. All college football players get a pass from me when it comes to on-the-field performance because in the end, they're college athletes playing for themselves and their team. They owe me nothing.

First of all, we're not at war. Second, when Operation Market Garden failed, was it the 19 year old paratroopers taking the blame? Or was it the generals? Yes, we can scrutinize and criticize but in the end, 1) we ourselves are likely incapable of what the players do and 2) it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, does it? It's just a bunch of young guys putting their bodies on the line for a game they like to play, and we're upset because they're not as good as we want them to be.

I wasn't saying who is more to blame I was just saying he's not a kid. Of course Ferentz is to blame as well. I just don't bitch as much about Ferentz because he's not going anywhere. You can't complain about the offense and sit there and say a guy who averages 80 yards a game of late is doing so because of the head coach. He just wasn't good enough. I don't care how many kids he's sired or if he has been banged up. I want to see him produce and be a leader. I didn't see that this year so Im glad we are on to a new qb.

I still think the CJB we saw in the ISU game 2 years ago is the real CJB. Granted, ISU isn't the greatest litmus test. He made NFL throws in that game, he showed mobility and arm strength in that game. For a variety of reasons he is not that guy anymore. It is kinda sad because I do not know if that guy will ever reappear again. Physically and emotionally he is pretty beat down it will probably take a lot to get his psyche right to get old CJB back.

Or the Iowa state game this year? I thought he was the second coming of mariota

Agreed. That game 2 years ago think about it: the throw from the end zone to MV, the TD throws to McCarron and Smith were NFL throws against tight coverage. The 50 yd run, those wheels are gone now. As I stated before I am not sure if that guy will ever return again. It's sad, the skills are there, I just think he is beat down to the point where he can't recover.

Because he went 21-7 and 7-1 in trophy games. Rudock never won a bowl game either, and did not win a Big Ten West title. Rudock was AWFUL in the big games. Beathard was the better QB in big games, including wins over ranked Wisconsin and NW in 2015 and ranked Michigan and Nebraska in 2016. There really is no comparison

Guffus is correct his legacy is uneven because of the bowl games. You compare him to Stanzi or Tate and you are doing the "but wait a minute "......Not saying it is right, but it is what it is.

CJ is an adult. He's about to graduate from college and embark on a career. He's now also a father. Stop calling him a kid.

I missed your posts "defending" these poor "kids" when people were on here crucifying Rudock. CJB is your fav, I get it... but he is not as good as everyone on here has built him up to be.

So according to your logic, Steele Jantz is a really good QB, because he had a great game vs us... but all his other stinkers, well that's just someone else's fault (the line, the coaches, the other players around him, etc).

C'mon dude. He spent the last 2 years playing beat up. Spent this entire year with guys who can't get open. The last 2 years the pass protection hasn't been great, especially by the tackles. It doesn't excuse CJB from everything, but if you can't see the difference between CJB and Steele Jantz, well that's on you brother.

I am reassessing my take on 2015. Except to TE's he didn't thread the needle much, but went to open spaces. IN 2015, the defenses played stacked and dared passing. This year the Ds stacked the line and played deeper, so it required more accurate passing. Still the mechanics were different. If you have a bad knee, you will float passes and overthrow..

If you are a Clown fan, I am truly sorry.

Because CJ had no one to throw to and everyone saw that he gave up his body countless times to get just one more yard.

I've seen lots of legit reasons from you all. There's little doubt the combination of them all is why he had a bad year. He played so well last year at times and even in spot duty as a sophomore. It seemed like he played like Brett Farve with nothing to lose but the starting job he didn't have and was fighting for at the time. Then once he got it the coaches neutered him and kept him from playing that way anymore. Unfortunately they didn't really neuter him... That may have been one less thing keeping him off his game. I'm surprised that wasn't reported till it was. Fort Kinnick can sure keep a secret... Did the media not know who his GF was for the last 2 yrs and that she wasn't preggo? I'm not saying I wish I knew early I could honestly care less he's not the first or last college kid to knock a girl up. I'm just surprised in todays social media age it didn't get out
