Who's your favorite Hawkeye?

Basabe brings the most excitement when he is playing well. JO is right on the edge of being very good and shooters are really fun to watch. I like to watch McCabe get under peoples skin(see first NW game). Gabe is starting to slow down and really become a good player. White is really fun to watch dunk. Lately Woody is very exciting for a big dude and like it when you makes a play and struts around. Marble is the best player on the team and the program really needs guys like him. At times he can do what he wants.

So Ill go with fran.

Melsahn his first two years, loved his work. Mikey Gesell last year and this year as I like his bounce, energy, creative ability,

All time favorite is Sam Williams who was smooth as glass.

Marble (this year's choice) - has weathered all the coaching changes, has worked hard to improve his game (especially outside shooting), takes the lead when his team needs it, and is doing it all in a business like fashion in his later years. Not overly concerned about his stats or the hype the team has been receiving as of late.......just wants to win.

Has become a total player since his freshman year.....been enjoyable to watch him grow.

Aaron White for me. I remember a story that Jim Jackson told when they were doing the Iowa/Wisconsin game at the Kohl Center Whitey's freshman year. He said if you were choosing up teams for a playground game and you saw White standing there, you would kind of go, Ahh..no" and choose someone else. Then shortly into the game, as he's tearing you up, you would be yelling, "WHO'S GOT THAT GUY?!?"

I guess I'd say White. It's hard not to like Marble being the team's leading scorer (I assume) and I was a big Roy Sr. fan back in the day, so it's pretty cool seeing the Marbles climbing the father-son duos all-time scoring list.

I'm starting to become an Olaseni fan rather quickly as well. He's really blossomed lately.

1980's: BJ Armstrong, Roy Marble, Ed Horton
1990's: Jess Settles, Chris Street, 'Dre Woolridge, Chris Kingsbury
2000's: Greg Brunner, Reggie Evans, Adam Haluska

The only difference I would make would be to add Horner to the 2000's.....

This team is difficult to pick out a favorite player because they play so well as a Team. I like them all and I know this will create many chortles for me, but I like Josh Oglesby and Zach McCabe just as much as the others....

I loved Eric May his first and last years, and really like to watch Aaron and Devyn along with Mel.....

My favorite Hawkeye is Wild Bull Pameras. Go Hawks!

I hear you, Atomic, The Man of Steel.....

All-Time: Chris Street
Current: BASABE! SPICY!. Easily my favorite interview, and he's not bad at hoops, either.

In my book, if they agreed to come to Iowa City to wear the black and gold, my answer is all of them.

But if I had to pick the one I most appreciate, it's Mel. Talented New York kid attending prep school in Massachusetts, committed to playing college hoops a little more than two hours up I-90 at a 3,200-student Catholic college for a passionate, energetic coach; takes a huge risk to follow that coach when he accepts a new job half way across fly-over country at a Big Ten program he, Mel, likely hadn't even heard of, let alone considered playing in, one that had hit rock bottom. Started all 31 games as a freshman, usually out of necessity at the 5 where he typically gave up several inches to taller, more physical B1G centers.

Despite getting pounded down low, Mel finished that first season ranked first in team rebounding (6.8), blocks (41) and free throws made (80) and attempted (112), and second in scoring (11.0). He played well enough to be voted to the B1G Freshman Team and to receive honorable mention for the all-conference team.

IMHO, Mel has been THE key player in helping Fran revive Iowa hoops and set a new direction in his very first year in Iowa City. As other talented players have arrived in Iowa City, Mel's role has changed and he doesn't get the recognition he did as a freshman. Still, as a senior, he is a very critical member of this team, grabbing rebounds, blocking shots, disrupting the opponent's flow, making timely baskets. His goaltended tip-in should have been the game-winner against MSU.

He will be missed when this season ends, which I hope will not happen until some time in April in Arlington, Texas.

Thanks for taking a chance, Mel! Hope you're enjoying the ride.

(Note: No "least favorites," please. Thanks in advance.)

Like the post, but do you really think that Mel had never heard of the University of Iowa basketball program? It is named after one of the 50 states for the love of Pete.

Sam Williams was incredible! I had season tickets when he played and really enjoyed watching him. Wasn't he only like, 6'3"? He rebounded like a demon, went to the hoop and shot from the outside as well. Glad you mentioned him.

Aaron White for me. I remember a story that Jim Jackson told when they were doing the Iowa/Wisconsin game at the Kohl Center Whitey's freshman year. If I were choosing up a team for a playground game and saw White standing there, I would absolutely choose him. He'd likely be 6 inches taller than anyone else there.

I bet you play pickup games with different players than Jackson does.

Oh, I don't know. I just made that up  My point was that he was born on Long Island, at some point moved and attended a non- elite academy in Massachusetts, seemed destined to go the small college route until the coach who recruited him got a new gig at a Big Ten university and decided to follow him halfway across the country and well away from what had been familiar territory. Mel took a big risk coming to Iowa; seems to have paid off for him. And for us.

I would have to go with White. I just wish he would be more agressive. I think he will be on a lot of peoples alltime lists after next year.

Favorite player on this team, actually it is a pretty tough question for me.

When it comes down to it though I would have to pick: Adam Woodbury

I appreciate how hard he works for everything and he is improving each day, he does so many little things well that people don't see on paper and those are the guys I generally enjoy watching.

The question I have is this: Why does Iowa have such a difficult time with the post feed? Iowa has a size advantage over a lot of teams and don't feed the post as I think some people would like. Iowa has capable players and Woodbury is my favorite of them all.
