Who's better...

I think it is a push. Roth had two of the best LBs in Iowa football history behind him his senior year (Hodge and Greenway). Our LBs during Clayborn's senior year were not very good (the good ones didn't play due to injury). As a result, Clayborn was double-teamed much of his senior season.

I would take either one of them this fall - wow would that make a difference.:D

Although I think AC might have the better skills, no one had a motor like Roth, or the personality. I will never forget the Gator Chomp, or Heisman Pose after sacks.

Are we talking about who's better NOW or when they were in a Hawkeye uniform?

Now would Clayborn be, IMO. Roth had a few injuries and some other issues going on not that long ago though, IIRC.

If we're talking about when they were in Hawkeye uniforms then I think I have to go with Roth. The guy was an absolute animal. AC was too, but pretty much only dominated his junior year, whereas Roth was pretty damn dominant for at least 2 seasons. Just my opinion.

Edit: Just realized this thread was started after AC's junior year, but still doesn't change my thoughts.

Imagine of Roth stayed at LB, and those three were our LB corps.

Jared Devries without injuries might have been the most dominant Dlineman in Iowa history. He played on one leg and still brought people down.
