Who ya got?

I had Duke on the moneyline. I won less than $30 on a $100 bet. I actually thought it would be easy money...it wasn't. I was still rooting for Butler.

How does the moneyline work? Since I am new, I only know how to bet straight up (like tonight I took Butler +7.5) and I know how to bet the over/under. Other than that, sportsbook.com has a lot of weird terminology that I am not familiar with. What is, for example, a "progressive parlay?" A "round robin?" A "teaser?"

Sorry that this is turning into an "off topic" thread in the bball forum.

moneyline is a bet on the winner of the game. If you bet on the favorite you are risking more than you can win. If you bet on the underdog you win more than you bet. With the large spread a bet on duke doesn't win you much. On my $100 bet I won $27+. Had you bet on Butler and they had won you'd win 3-400 on a $100 bet. The payout depends on the spread.

There won't be a moneyline on games with a large spread of 12 or more.

Teasers are bets where you bet on 2 or more games but you get a few extra points off the spread because you have to win both. In basketball you get 4 extra points on a 2 game teaser. Football is 6 points. I do them all of the time. The payout on $10 bet is around $9.

Sportsbook.com has a tutorial or definitions of all of their bets somewhere on the site.

Cool. All great info. Thank you!

I have done some 2-5 team parlays, and a few straight up bets. I have hit 2 and 3 game parlays, but never hit a 4 or 5 gamer. I will definitely look into the money line. That seems like a good bet to make most of the time, even though you win less. I hate giving up a ton of points because of garbage time.

If you are betting on a favorite on the moneyline I would make sure it's the home team since you are already less than an even bet. A favorite on the road loses more often than a favorite at home (in my head, anyway). I've been burned on road favorites.
