who is the most overrated star in the nba?

i thought of this because i cant seem to think of what blake griffin can do other than dunk. he cant shoot, he isnt a great rebounder, he doesnt block shots even with his leaping ability. i just think he is good for dunk contests and highlight reels but if i were building a championship team i wouldnt take him. who do the rest of you guys think is up there?

If you include the masses of Laker homers who still think Kobe is the best player in the league, he might be the most over-rated. If you only count objective opinions, most people grasp the fact that he isn't the player he was and judge him fairly in that light.

With Griffin, there are two problems with saying he's overrated. First, he's only 23 and is only in his second year. I think he's better than 99% of players in their second year. Second, everyone seems to think he's overrated. I think he's become almost under-valued because everyone thinks he's over-valued.

One guy I would suggest is overrated is Paul Pierce. He isn't where he once was, and I think he's fallen below the elite category he was once in.

(Most UNDERrated player in the league? Without a doubt Kevin Love.)

jumper he isnt even better than 99% of power forwards let alone 99% of the league. i get he is young but dunking in itself is overrated and that is all he brings to the table.

post game (ie back to basket moves) - none
jumper - none
free throws - liability (shaq was better)
block shots - weak
rebounding - below average for position
defense - weak
passing - weak

dunks - great

he is overrated and i am not sure he would start for any of the other teams still in the playoffs at pf.

dwade - i can see it as he has aged badly
lebron - definitely he is more worried about his brand than basketball
pierce & kobe (same boat) - i think most know they have lost a step but they still have that elite ability to carry the team when they must.

No one said he was. He's better than 99% of second year guys.

Edit: I take that back. I would say he's better than 100% of the the current second year guys. He's probably better than 97% of second year guys in NBA history.

i misread your's jumper sorry. yet you said he is undervalued and that is asinine. tell me what he does that is undervalued. he is considered overrated by many because he is. and those that dont think he is are people that only think about highlights and not the finer points of the game. dwight howard has a better post up game than griffin (and howard is just above nothing for post up game). i realize he is a 2nd yr player but actually he is a redshirt sophomore because he was injured. during that time (3 yrs) it is like he has not seemed to raise his level in any of the things that would make him a good player (ie rebounding or blocking shots or just as a defender). the clippers went and got reggie evans because they needed someone to rebound from the pf spot at least a little. griffin is a complete waste at pf if you have to play a half court game.

Based on this post, I now feel that Blake Griffin is underrated.

I guess my main issue is semantic. If "everyone" thinks someone or something is overrated, it is literally impossible for that person or thing to still be overrated. When people think something is overrated, it changes the overall rating of that something. I believe that so many NBA analysts and fans have asserted in the past couple of months that Griffin is "overrated" that those analysts and fans are now under-valuing the things he brings, overall. I'm not saying he's an elite player (though he's close). He definitely hasn't progressed the way most would want him to, but he still has some time to improve his half-court game and his defense.

Anyone who thinks Kobe is overrated is a massive idiot. The guy is chasing his 6th ring. Lebron isn't overrated, he just isn't clutch.

The guy that I've been extremely underwhelmed by this postseason is CP3. He gets pushed around a lot and is always forced to take fadeaways because he's so small. And he isn't a 3 point specialist by any means. Plays good D though.

Another guy I would suggest is overrated is Amare Stoudemire. It's been a few years since I thought he was an elite power forward. I definitely don't think he's worth the money that the Knicks pay him, especially considering what he brings on the defensive end.

hawkfan33 needs a wake up call. if you think that he is underrated because of my post what would you call kevin love or ginoboli (sp?) or others like them. they are truely underrated as you rarely hear about them but they are great players. kevin love makes blake griffin's basketball game look elementary. he is a rebounding machine can handle, shoot, pass. he is like the 2010s version of larry bird.

I don't think you get the whole overrated/underrated concept. Kevin Love finished 6th in MVP voting, he's going to be at worst 2nd team All NBA. That's pretty damn good for a guy who plays absolutely terrible defense. Ginobili is also talked about plenty, in what world are these guys flying under the radar?

I think issue with Love is two-fold. First, because he plays for a sub-.500 team and in a city that isn't basketball crazy, the casual fan doesn't appreciate where his game is at. I think hardcore fans love Kevin, but the fan that only watched the playoffs may not grasp how good he is. Second, I think Love is better than the 6th best player in the league.

Hes a below average defender, that automatically keeps him out of the top 5.

after watching a couple of these laker 4th qtr. losses, i'd say kobe bryant. and i'm a laker's fan. he continually tries to take these games over in the 4th qtr and doing so by hoisting up these circus shots. game totally changed for the lakers tonight because of this.

metta world peace - overrated? hardly.
